About the Role


We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Lawyer to join the team supporting our Woolworths Food Company and WLiving businesses. This is a new role which will sit within a high performing legal team responsible for supporting our Woolworths Food Company teams and WLiving teams, including BIG W and Healthy Life. It is a full-time role with great flexibility options available. We connect 2 - 3 days in our Bella Vista and/or Surry Hills offices, with the opportunity to work across our other offices, stores, sites and remotely or from home.

The role represents a superb opportunity to use your commercial acumen and legal skills to provide strategic and risk balanced legal advice, to further develop direct and horizontal leadership capabilities, and to collaborate with the broader Legal Services Team and Woolworths trading businesses across the evolving Woolworths food and everyday needs ecosystem.

You’ll be responsible for advising on a broad range of commercial matters, including:

  • Working with the Woolworths Food Company and WLiving teams, supporting day to day operations and associated regulatory and compliance activity which includes advisory support across a broad range of issues; preparing and negotiating ‘fit for purpose’ contracts; managing and advising on disputes and regulatory issues;
  • Working collaboratively across the broader Legal team to manage regulatory risk across our growing ecosystem;
  • Assisting with the development of training materials and deployment of training modules on legal developments and systems;
  • Managing and mentoring team members; and
  • Preparing internal reports for senior management.


About you

We’re looking for an experienced legal professional who is highly capable, collaborative, passionate and who consistently strives for better ways of working. You’ll have:

  • Bachelor of Laws with 10+ years PQE with a well regarded law firm or/and in house experience;
  • A current Australian practising certificate;
  • experience in commercial contracting, retail operations, wholesale and supply chain operations, and regulatory compliance;
  • superior drafting capabilities;
  • a commercial approach and an ability to negotiate effectively;
  • a willingness to be adaptive to the businesses’ changing needs;

and you’ll need to be:

  • capable of building trusted relationships with internal clients using balanced insights and impactful communication to influence decisions and actions;
  • able to prioritise competing demands and client expectations whilst managing a large volume of diverse matters;
  • able to anticipate and respond to changes in an effective way within a highly dynamic environment;
  • a resilient and collaborative professional who is comfortable dealing with ambiguity;
  • able to identify and solve problems and make the complex simple for clients by framing information and advising in a clear and concise way; and
  • able to demonstrate personal qualities that align with our purpose, values and ways of working.
