Located 14km northwest of Singleton, Ashton Underground Mine has been operational for over 20 years. The mine produces semi-soft coking coal for export through the Port of Newcastle, for use in the steel manufacturing industry and thermal coal for power generation. Ashton employs approximately 330 people across the surface and underground operations.
Job Tasks and Responsibilities
Reporting to the Shift Supervisor, the successful applicant will be responsible for:
- Operating large mobile and ancillary equipment supporting the CHPP production tasks as directed
- Working towards achieving the shift plan by being a motivated and enthusiastic team player
- Managing coal stockpile movements and perform train loading operations
- Carrying out maintenance tasks during maintenance periods and breakdowns
- Proactively contributing to the safety of the team by identify risks & hazards and reporting appropriately
- Supporting continuous improvement initiatives and making suggestions
- Encouraging and modelling good housekeeping & equipment care
Skills and Experience
To be successful in securing this role, you will possess the following:
- Experience operating & current tickets for Komatsu Haul Trucks, Caterpillar Dozers, Caterpillar Wheel Loaders (essential)
- Minimum 2 years' previous experience in a CHPP environment and/or proven experience executing similar maintenance and operational tasks (essential)
- Mechanical or Electrical Trade Qualification (essential)
- Detailed knowledge of CHPP equipment and systems including conveyors, pumps, feeders, screens, rotary breakers and train loading systems
- Demonstrated commitment to safety and environmentally responsible practices
- High level hazard identification skills with a continuous improvement mindset
