We’re looking for a team player to join as Manager, Diversity & Inclusion on a fixed term, 12-month contract to join and help embed diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) into the heart of everything we do. With an ideal immediate start date, the role will support the ongoing building of DEI into a business-as-usual activities, promote DEI as an enabler of driving business outcomes and support the meeting of our contractual obligations.

You’ll play a key role in shaping an inclusive workplace where diversity is valued, belonging is fostered, and everyone is supported to succeed. Working across all levels of the organisation, you’ll help influence strategic decisions and embed inclusive practices into everyday operations. This is a role where two days won’t look the same – from developing strategic business cases, to meeting with stakeholders, to getting on with delivery of work, it’s an exciting and busy role where you’ll genuinely be able to make a meaningful impact and create an environment where people can truly thrive.

Reporting to our Director, Diversity & Inclusion this role will:

  • Support the rollout of DEI initiatives across YJM, ensuring alignment with organisational priorities and day-to-day operational needs.
  • Coordinate and monitor the Gender Equity Action Plan, while contributing to broader DEI plans that promote equitable access and inclusive practices.
  • Work in partnership with People & Culture to deliver DEI capability-building initiatives, including training, resources, policy development, EVP, employee experience, and community engagement activities.
  • Oversee DEI reporting requirements, including data collection, compliance obligations, and tracking progress to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Provide DEI insights and updates in relevant forums and undertake additional activities that support evolving organisational priorities and the successful delivery of DEI outcomes.

About you

This role requires someone with a strong delivery and implementation mindset, comfortable to challenge in a respectful manner but also cognisant of the point where consultation meets execution. In addition, we’d also like the successful applicant to present with:

  • Demonstrated experience leading and coordinating D&I and culture change programs.
  • Proven expertise in managing complex, large-scale diversity initiatives and driving real change within an organisation.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills including the ability to work collaboratively across business and teams to deliver outcomes.
  • Proven ability to develop strategic business cases while not afraid to get on with getting the job done.

After your initial application, here’s what to expect.

  • Review: We review & shortlist applications as they arrive, but the majority of our work is done after applications close. Applications are reviewed first by our Talent Acquisition team and then by our Hiring Managers
  • Interview: Our interviews are the best way for us to get to know you and determine your fit for the role through questions focused on your behaviours, skills and experiences. Our preference is to meet you face to face but we’re also happy to accommodate virtual interviews to suit your circumstances
  • Background & pre-employment checks: If you’re the preferred candidate we’ll ask you to go through a series of background checks, including references, working rights, drug & alcohol and medical checks which are standard for all positions within Yarra Trams
