Help keep Melbourne moving. As a Tram Maintainer (Fitter & Electrician), you’ll play a vital role in the safe, reliable operation of our tram fleet and depot equipment. Working in a collaborative team, you’ll perform planned maintenance, diagnostics and repairs across mechanical and electrical systems—so our trams stay on the network and our passengers get where they need to be.

What you’ll do
- Preventative & corrective maintenance on tram mechanical and electrical systems (bogies, brakes, doors, HVAC, lighting, propulsion, low-voltage/high‑voltage systems).
- Fault‑finding & diagnostics using OEM manuals, wiring diagrams, schematics, test equipment and CMMS.
- Repairs & component change‑outs, torqueing, alignments, adjustments and verification tests.
- Electrical work: isolation, testing, compliance checks, wiring/termination, PLC/controls troubleshooting (as applicable to fleet type).
- Mechanical work: fitting, fabrication, alignment, pneumatics/hydraulics, lubrication and condition monitoring.
- Safety & compliance: follow permits-to-work, LO/TO, SWMS/JSA, quality inspections and documentation to standards.
- Continuous improvement: identify defects, contribute to reliability initiatives, and support root cause analysis.
- Teamwork: collaborate across shifts and disciplines; support training, handovers and fleet campaigns.
What you’ll bring
- Trade qualifications (either or both):
- Mechanical Fitter – Certificate III/IV in Engineering (Mechanical), or equivalent.
- Electrician – Victorian A‑Grade licence or certificate III/IV in electrical fitting and demonstrated experience in industrial/electrical maintenance.
- Experience in rail/rolling stock, heavy industry, automotive, manufacturing, mining, defence or similar.
- Strong diagnostics across electro‑mechanical systems; ability to read drawings/schematics.
- Familiarity with maintenance systems, reliability practices, and quality systems.
- Commitment to Zero Harm, safe systems of work, and meticulous documentation.
- Able to work afternoon shift and overtime as needed.
- Desirable: HV/LV switching exposure, PLC basics, pneumatics/hydraulics, welding/fabrication, test & tag, EWP/rigging licences.
Pre‑employment & licensing
- Right to work in Australia; satisfactory background checks.
- Pre‑employment medical (including drug & alcohol).
- Current driver’s licence (for depot/field movement as required).
- Ability to meet all compliance requirements relevant to rail safety.
