Who we are looking for
We are seeking an organised and meticulous Laboratory Technician - Mineralogy to assist with the safe and efficient preparation of high-quality resin mount polished blocks for mineralogical analysis.
Reporting to the Principal Mineralogist and as a valued member of a close-knit team, you will acquire proficient skills in utilising mineralogical sample preparation equipment and basic SEM operation through our fit-for-purpose training.
Other key deliverables include, but not limited to:
- Responsible for sample receipting, including assigning job numbers, weighing samples and determining job start weights
- Safely and efficiently prepare high-quality resin mount polished blocks for mineralogical analysis
- Routinely carry out sample changes and measurement set-ups of mineralogical instruments
- Assist mineralogists with data management including file copying, setting up new projects from templates and project archiving
- Maintain updated records and good communication with key stakeholders internally and externally, as required, to facilitate the safe and efficient running of the sample preparation facility
As the ideal candidate, you will be able to work autonomously, doing methodical routine work in a safe and efficient manner. You will be keen to be trained in laboratory operations, with any previous experience in routine laboratory work being advantageous. This role will benefit from your good time management skills and well-organised approach to work.
In addition, you will also have:
- High school certificate with Year 12 completed
- Ability to work in a highly methodical, careful manner, doing routine laboratory work on a daily basis
- Proficiency in MS Office programs including Excel, Word and PowerPoint
- TAFE or equivalent certificate in laboratory skills and / or techniques is desirable
- Experience in sample preparation (either thin sections or polished blocks) for mineralogical analysis would be beneficial, as would any experience working in the mining industry
