Job Description
The Opportunity
We are seeking a highly-motivated Scientist to join our Cell and Gene therapy process development team. You will play a key role in the development of robust cell manufacturing processes for transfer to clinical manufacturing. This will include platform development for cell-based gene therapies across different indications.
The Role
Reporting into the Senior Manager, Gene Therapy, you will be responsible for:
- Cell manufacturing process design, development and optimisation with guidance from team leadership
- Generation of accurate, reliable data to support process development
- Assisting with scale up, optimisation and tech transfer activities to the pilot scale operations group and to commercial manufacturing sites
- General laboratory housekeeping duties as assigned, and maintaining laboratories and facilities to GSP & regulatory standards.
- Ensuring high safety standards are adhered to as governed by local, state and federal regulations, laws and policies as well as CSL’s policies and directives. Ensuring compliance with OGTR guidelines.
- Sourcing and ordering required raw materials and equipment required to support experimental studies.
- Communicating ideas, plans and results succinctly in both written and oral presentation, and representing the group at meetings as required.
- Developing documents associated with process development including procedures, study protocols, reports and work books.
To be successful
We’re looking for a dynamic applicant who demonstrates the following qualifications and skills:
- A tertiary degree including Honours (or equivalent), in a scientific/medical/(bio)pharmaceutical discipline
- Higher postgraduate qualification, e.g., Masters/PhD will be well regarded
- Following lab techniques/skills would be well regarded:
- Cell culture (primary human cells/stem cells)
- Flow cytometry
- Transduction including with lentiviral vectors
- Sterile technique
- Proven ability to be independent and self-motivated, demonstrating flexibility to flourish in a fast-paced environment
- Understands new scientific concepts and ideas
- Aptitude for data science including clean data principles, statistical analysis and experimental design.
- Very good communication and networking skills. The ability to work successfully in a cross-functional, multidisciplinary and multinational team environment.
