About the Role (Job Description)

Reporting into the Vice President Health, Safety & Environment Minerals Australia, the Head of Security and Emergency Management provides thought leadership and technical mastery in the strategic management of security and emergency management (SEM) related issues, provisions and initiatives across the Minerals Australia footprint (mine site to corporate office). The Head of Security and Emergency Management Minerals Australia will play a critical role in the success of BHP, by protecting our most valuable resource – people.
This is a global search, with the role based in Adelaide, Brisbane, or Perth - Australia.
About You (Skills & Qualifications)
In this role, you will cultivate strong relationships through effective communication and consultation, positively influencing the Asset and Operational Teams; shaping the culture to ensure a safe, productive, sustainable and disciplined approach to work focused on continuous improvement and risk mitigation.
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate their ability to develop and work within team-centric delivery mechanisms holding to the highest values of integrity, care for others and psychological safety. You will be strategic thinker with the ability to focus and prioritize critical deliverables to provide clear direction and governance to the Security Teams, with many competing priorities concurrently across Minerals Australia. You will bring creativity to seek, encourage and find non-traditional approaches, while demonstrating learning agility and the ability to connect the dots to solve problems. The successful candidate will be sharp in making sound judgement, leveraging from relevant experience and working effectively within complex security projects. They will resolve security challenges and capture opportunities, enhance crisis preparedness, and prioritize development of a safe and secure environment for all employees and contractors across BHP in Australia and the broader industry.

Requirements
Minimum requirements that this candidate will bring are:
- Tertiary qualification in Security, Law Enforcement, Military Intelligence or a related field; or equivalent demonstrable experience in a security-related field (at an equivalent level)
- Minimum 10 years of experience in the delivery of security and emergency management support; preferably in a global/corporate multi-national
- Robust corporate and operational security experience, preferably in the mining, oil & gas or industry with similar dispersed footprint
- Experience with remote locations and complex environments - international, cross-cultural experience is desirable
- Demonstrated experience making difficult decisions and managing change under pressure, with a proven ability to make rational decisions based on limited information
- Experience working in and navigating stakeholders in a complex, matrixed work environment, or in a team/organization that spans multiple geographies
- Proven experience shaping inclusive, diverse, dynamic, and high-performing teams
- Security clearance with the Australian Government or relevant government institutions
Accountabilities
Accountabilities of this leader include, but are not limited to:
- Manages, improves and provides expertise on security management practices to improve organisational security maturity and performance
- Lead and direct effective SEM initiatives designed to safeguard people and assets in Australia
- Connect SEM personnel from the different MAu Assets to identify best practice, share learnings and identify improvement and standardisation opportunities
- Direct and lead complex projects in support of strategic plans and infrastructure protection
- Manages projects to generate value and drive the achievement of project outcomes
- Works in step with Global SEM personnel in Group HSE to inform global strategies and programs of work, supports Executive security if need, and regional crisis management
- Identifies, engages and manages a range of diverse internal and external stakeholders
- Makes strategic evidence and risk based decisions to support long-term business objectives
- Designs and implements governance/assurance practices and follows Management of Change procedures to control value outcomes across Minerals Australia
- Knows their customers and is obsessed with meeting their needs
- Engages the capabilities of the entire organisation
- Strives to achieve 100% safety, 100% customer value and 0% waste
- Determines the underlying cause of problems and evaluates multiple solutions to ensure a planned and structured approach in delivering solutions
- Implements and embeds emerging technologies/systems to optimize the efficiency of the end-to-end value chain in alignment with anticipated industry shifts
