The Opportunity
Reporting to the Financial Accounting Lead the key responsibilities of this role is to conduct and support the period end close process including maintaining integrity of the general ledger for one of South32s Australian Operations.
Accountabilities Include:
- Undertake monthly accounting processes and general ledger management for an Australian Operation
- Review and perform on-going general ledger governance activities to ensure transactions are recorded accurately
- Undertake accounting analysis to ensure meet both stand alone and Group external financial reporting requirements
- Annual reporting to assist in delivery of S32 Financial information to the Market including the preparation of Statutory accounts in a timely manner and in accordance with Group and International Accounting standards
- Co-ordinate and prepare components of the South32 accounting governance framework, including internal control evaluation and detailed balance sheet reviews
- Provide support and expertise in critical/material financial accounting areas to our site business partners and other S32 functions
- Lead communication and co-ordination with External Auditors for Australian operation
- Manage relationship with our Joint Venture Partners by providing ongoing accounting support
- Maintain accounting excellence and identify and implement process improvement initiatives
- Ensure compliance with the relevant International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and South32 control framework
Qualification/s required:
- Tertiary qualified in Accounting, Finance or Commerce and/or CA / CPA or equivalent accounting qualification
About You
- Proficient in the use of SAP, BI and Cognos (preferable)
- Understanding of financial accounting concepts & processes
- Experience in accounting/risk/finance/audit or related field is desirable
- Problem solving – uses logic and methods to solve problems with effective solutions
- Analytical and accurate, with an inquisitive mindset to critically evaluate information and numbers
- Ability to work to multiple deadlines and prioritise accordingly

This role will be located at our Perth corporate office in the heart of the CBD.
