Position Purpose Statement
A rare in-house opportunity to join Metro as a Senior Projects Lawyer. Reporting to the General Manager Legal & Compliance, this role will provide expert legal advice on a range of matters relating to the operation of the Metropolitan railway network, with a particular focus on the Level Crossing Removal Project and Franchise Projects.
About the Role
You will be responsible for advising in relation to Metro’s role in the Level Crossing Removal Project and Franchise Projects, including:
- Negotiating project documentation in respect of Metro’s role on the projects, including any Project Deeds and Project Alliance Agreements;
- Advising in respect of complex inter-project interfaces and interfaces with Metro’s role as operator of the metropolitan rail network;
- Advising in relation to contractual rights and obligations;
- Advising in relation to the procurement process, including tender processes and negotiation and drafting of contracts for Metro for an extensive range of goods, services and capital contracts;
- Advising in relation to contract variations and claims, extensions of time and insurance, warranty and defect issues;
- Advising in relation to minor claims and disputes and assisting in managing litigation as required;
- Assisting with the Board process, including preparing Board papers; and
- Instructing and receiving advice from external lawyers in appropriate matters.

Qualifications, skills and Experience
To be successful in this role you will have:
- A tertiary qualification in law (LLB, Juris Doctor or equivalent) and hold a current Victorian Legal Practising Certificate without conditions
- You have at least 8 years’ post-qualification experience in a quality law firm or equivalent experience in industry working in transport, infrastructure or general commercial practice
- You are outcomes focused and value the importance of teamwork, collaborating with your peers and making a difference
- You have the agility to engage with a variety of stakeholders, maintaining working relationships and communicating legal advice at all levels
- You have the ability to manage multiple priorities while remaining focused on achieving excellent results
