The opportunity
The Assurance group provides statutory audit and a range of other assurance services that include business risk, internal audit and information security. Our ‘account-centric’ organisational model recognises that most client issues are best addressed by a number of our service lines working together.
EY is looking for an Audit Manager in the Wellington Office. Our goal is to provide outstanding service to our chosen markets and as a consequence to provide stimulating careers for our people and a competitive return for our partners.
Working within Assurance, the Audit Manager has responsibility for the work of the Audit staff to help achieve our goal.
Your key responsibilities (but not limited to)
Engagement Management:
- Assume leadership role on audit engagements, providing advice and guidance to less experienced staff, ensuring expectations are clearly communicated and set standards for staff
- Maintain staff utilisation and effective use of resources, prioritising workloads and deliverables
- Review work done by less experienced staff, providing constructive feedback and suggesting practical and technically correct solutions towards issue resolution.
Problem Solving:
- Contribute both individually and as a member of a team in the resolution of complex issues.
- Perform complex analysis of issues or problems, interpreting results and providing recommendations in the decision-making process.
Quality & Risk Management:
- Participate in quality assurance reviews and ensure appropriate quality and risk management processes are followed.
- Ensure the professional and ethical image of the firm is maintained by providing courteous and timely service to clients and staff.
Leadership & Communication:
- Facilitate meetings and small discussion groups, ensuring team members understand their role, are well prepared and outcomes communicated on a timely basis.
- Demonstrate commitment to the firm, its culture and its standards.
- Demonstrate professionalism and integrity along with a positive attitude, enthusiasm and a willingness to work hard.
Develop Self & Others:
- Assist staff in identifying development needs and actions plans and assist in the resolution of interpersonal issues.
- Promote knowledge of audit technology to be able to support team and enhance use of tools and knowledge resources.
- Provide constructive feedback and guidance for direct and indirect reports.
Teamwork:
- Demonstrate an understanding and commitment to the Firm’s OSH requirements, including process for reporting accidents or incidents and identification of hazards.
Health & Safety:

Skills and attributes for success
To qualify for the role you must have
- Bachelors degree minimum tertiary qualification
- Completed professional qualifications in accounting (CA or acceptable international equivalent)
- Approximately 7 years practical assurance experience with a recognised CA firm
- Possess highly developed audit technical skills and knowledge of audit methodology and audit documentation standards
- Possess highly developed engagement management skills, in particular time management and communication skills
- Demonstrable experience in management and leadership, utilising strong interpersonal skills and effectively managing a team
- Competent in Microsoft Office
Ideally, you’ll also have
- Experience with accounting under IFRS
- Transaction advisory experience
- Personal relationships in the Business community relevant to New Zealand
