Aquila overview
Anglo American has significant investments within Australia and particularly in Queensland. We are Australia’s largest underground coal miner and the world’s third largest seaborne exporter of metallurgical coal, which is used in steel production for critical building and infrastructure around the world.
Anglo American currently operates two open cut and three underground metallurgical coal mines in Queensland’s Bowen Basin, and we are now progressing the development of our underground Aquila Mine, near Middlemount, as part of our expansion projects.
Development activities are expected to commence in 2019 on the longwall operation, which will produce hard coking coal from the southern end of Anglo American’s existing Capcoal complex. The project is jointly owned by Anglo American and Mitsui Coal Holdings Pty Ltd, with Anglo American as the managing company.
Control Room Operator – Aquila Underground Mine
Reporting to the Compliance Superintendent, you with be responsible for managing and controlling the shift underground communication and monitoring strategies to enable the occurrence of safe and efficient operations. This position serves as the focal point for communication within the mine regarding production and safety. Some of the key responsibilities include the following, but not limited too;
- Assist the operations team to deliver production targets safely, optimally, and in accordance with the annual mine plan.
- Maintain short interval controls for all production areas and provide updates on performance to Superintendents and Management as required.
- Monitor, record, assist in diagnostics & communicate Citect environmental monitoring system.
- File production and statutory reports.
This is a Residentially based or DIDO role, based in Middlemount.
The project is currently in the approvals and early works stage. As a result, a variety of permanent, contract and fixed-term roles are available, depending on the suitability of candidates.
