Senior Electrical Engineer

We now have an exciting opportunity available for a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our Power Systems Operations Engineering Team in Perth on a Permanent Full Time Basis.
Reporting to the Team Lead Power Operations Engineering, you will play a key role in securing Australia’s energy future by providing key engineering support to critical power infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide essential day-to-day engineering support to ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of power system assets, including high voltage equipment, power generation, distribution, and transmission equipment.
- Conduct thorough investigations into operational incidents, identify root causes, and develop recommendations to resolve issues. Enhance maintenance strategies and standard operating procedures.
- Regularly review equipment data, identify abnormal conditions, and provide actionable recommendations to minimise impact and ensure optimal performance.
- Identify engineering opportunities to create value for the business by reducing costs or increasing revenue, supported by sound technical due diligence.
- Take ownership of engineering changes, including risk assessments and updates to drawings and documentation.
- Lead minor capital projects to upgrade assets, improving safety and reliability.
- Travel regularly to sites and be available to operations, offering a unique opportunity to directly support field teams and APA operations.
Your background
- Tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering (or a similar field) and be eligible for corporate membership with Engineers Australia, or have equivalent experience.
- Extensive experience in high voltage power systems, including generation, transmission, or similar heavy industry.
- Understanding of Australian and international electrical codes and standards.
- Strong communicator who can effectively relate to and collaborate with staff and management at all levels, bringing people together to achieve shared goals.
- Self-motivated and detail-oriented, with a passion for investigation and fault analysis, using technical insight to solve problems.
- Experience in an operational environment, managing competing priorities and contributing to high-performance outcomes.
- Experience in renewable power system engineering and operations is desirable.
About the Team
As the Power Systems Operations Engineering team, we ensure the smooth operation of APA’s diverse energy assets in Western Australia, which include thermal and renewable energy sources like solar, wind, and battery storage. We provide essential day-to-day engineering support, conduct incident investigations, monitor equipment conditions, identify value-creating opportunities, manage engineering changes, and lead minor capital projects. Regular site visits and direct support to field teams are key aspects of our role, ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient operations.
