Role Summary

AtkinsRéalis’ Engineering Design business provides multidisciplinary engineering services and integrated solutions across a wide range of projects and markets. This is a fantastic opportunity for an Experienced/senior Protection Design Engineer with expertise in High Voltage Systems – Protection, controls and SCADA. (up to 500kV) to establish and a grow the team in Australia.

Experience in the design, development and implementation of protection, control, SCADA, familiarity with modern digital relays, relay coordination, applications/settings as well as auxiliary supply systems for high voltage networks is essential. Familiarity with Australian utility standards and experience on related projects will be well regarded.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Ability to lead a team of secondary system designers and supporting our multi-disciplinary design and project management teams, including supporting and mentoring more junior engineers.
  • Taking ownership of preparing and delivering a full scope of secondary design for new and brown field sites including conducting load flow, fault levels, and protection coordination studies, relay application and protection settings, protection and control schematics, SCADA system architecture and auxiliary supply systems.
  • Maintaining client relationships to support project delivery and engage as a subject matter Specialist.
  • Collaborate closely with internal and external stake holders to define project goals, establish budgets and develop project schedules, including with our Global T&D team
  • Participate actively in design reviews, risk assessments and quality control processes to ensure design excellence.
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends in power system control and protection design, to recommend innovative solutions.

Desired Skills, Experience and Capabilities

  • Proven experience in the design of HV and EHV substation installations, with an expertise in secondary systems design, including Protection, SCADA and auxiliary supplies.
  • Excellent interpersonal and technical skills with the ability to develop and lead design teams and develop strong client relationships
  • Experience working in digital engineering environments and delivering to local technical standards and guidelines
  • Commercially minded, can understand the business needs of both Atkinsrealis and our clients
  • Tertiary Qualifications in Electrical / Power Engineering or an Equivalent
  • NER, CPEng or RPEQ is ideal
