Role Summary

As the Technical Director – Geotechnical and Tunnels at AtkinsRéalis Australia, you will be a key figure in representing our brand, driving growth both locally and internationally. You will leverage your deep technical expertise to engage with clients, lead complex technical discussions, and ensure high standards in design deliverables across a variety of infrastructure and renewable energy projects.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead and oversee the analysis and reporting for tunnel and geotechnical design projects.
  • Ensure appropriate technical standards, quality assurance and safety requirements are maintained during design and construction
  • Provide expert input in materials testing, scoping objectives, and geotechnical investigations to inform design recommendations.
  • Contribute to winning work by assisting with proposal submissions, developing new business opportunities and growing client relationships
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers, ensuring high-quality technical design outputs.
  • Collaborate internally with discipline teams, Technical Leads, the GTC team, and interdisciplinary teams to deliver comprehensive project solutions.
  • Work closely with multi-disciplinary teams in Australia and overseas to deliver integrated design solutions
  • Support the Geotechnical Team Lead and Director of E&D on business development and strategic opportunities

Desired Skills, Experience and Capabilities

  • Extensive experience in the Renewable Energy and Water market
  • Strong numerical modelling experience using various geotechnical/structural software packages (eg. PLAXIS, FLAC, Wallap and the Rocscience suite)
  • Exceptional report writing abilities, with a keen eye for accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Proven track record in tunnel and underground design
  • Excellent interpersonal and technical skills and the ability to lead underground & geotechnical design teams.
  • Experience and understanding of the needs and approaches to the engineering consultancy and design markets, including relationships with clients, work planning and commercial management.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Geotechnical or Civil Engineering and ideally CPEng/NER
