About the OPPORTUNITY
We have an exciting opportunity for to join our JORN program based at Edinburgh Parks - South Australia, reporting to the Software Development Manager.

Jindalee Operational Radar Network (JORN) is a state-of-the-art defence system that provides wide-area surveillance. It plays a vital role in supporting the Australian Defence Force's air and maritime operations, border protection, disaster relief and rescue operations.
The JORN upgrade is a large-scale modernisation of the existing JORN radars, which involves installing a new radar system design to enhance its capability, as well as providing for flexibility and future growth. The JORN Surveillance software team is looking for a potential Product Owner/Software Team Lead to help lead our Agile based development effort, as we design and develop C++ software under the Atlassian/Bamboo/Git suite of tools.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the software engineering effort on one of two Agile based software teams
  • Lead the estimating and planning effort of the major software activities/epics to be completed during each release
  • Plan the team's scope of work in regards to the various risks and opportunities, to support the delivery of project milestones
  • Provide guidance, mentor and support the career aspirations and development of the software engineers who report to you
  • Develop documentation to support and manage each software delivery throughout the engineering lifecycle
  • Champion the use of 'Best Practice' Software Engineering processes and methods across the project, and identify opportunities to improve the software engineering process
  • Provide technical leadership and subject matter expertise to the project team

About YOU

  • Software Engineering, Computer Science or relevant technology degree
  • Demonstrated experience in the software engineering discipline
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with people of various disciplines and backgrounds
  • Ability to train and mentor engineers to support team building
  • Ability to lead medium sized Software Engineering teams
  • A strong understanding of the Software Development lifecycle
  • Must be eligible to obtain a Defence security clearance (Negative Vetting Level 1)
