An exciting opportunity at Box Hill Institute to make a difference in two newly created roles within our Faculty of Trades as the Head of Department.

About the role

The role of the Head of Department within our Trades department is to lead and drive high levels of educational delivery to ensure a culture of educational excellence with a focus on student progression, stakeholder satisfaction with a focus on industry and community engagement.

We have two positions available as Head of Department overseeing either the Electrical and Refrigeration department or our Wood, Automotive and Plumbing department. This role will input to operational plans for their respective area to ensure the faculty exceeds student, academic, growth and budgetary objectives as effectively as possible.

As a senior leader within the Education Delivery portfolio, this role is responsible for implementing and overseeing strategies, plans and policies to ensure a positive and safe student and employee environment and experience. As a leader within the faculty this position will provide clear leadership, management, support and direction to the Department team to create a culture of continuous improvement and teamwork.

About You

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field of study (or equivalent), and demonstrated experience successfully leading and managing high-quality delivery in the education sector
  • A relevant trade related, and/ or professional qualification in one or more courses related to the role or extensive industry knowledge in a nominated field within the portfolio
  • Demonstrated experience in the VET education sector in Australia, with proven success in in leading and managing high-performing and large teams related to VET compliance and relevant quality standards with a strong understanding of competency-based training and assessment
  • Demonstrated skills and experience, knowledge and understanding of VET policy and educational delivery and pedagogy (preferably in a vocational training environment)
  • Demonstrated understanding of government education sector, funded environments and stakeholder management
  • Proven ability to transform corporate vision and strategies into operational plans and drive tactical objectives which optimise resources and attain measurements of success
  • Highly developed operational management skills, utilising business/commercial and people acumen to manage and lead change with demonstrated awareness of and responsiveness to people from a broad range of diverse backgrounds
