An exciting opportunity at Box Hill Institute to make a difference in two newly created roles within our Faculty of Trades as the Department Manager.

About the role:

We have two positions available as Department Manager overseeing either the Electrical and Refrigeration departments or the Wood, Automotive and Plumbing departments.

This role is to mentor, manage and lead innovative and strategic teaching delivery and practices within their area of operational responsibility and across the Department in line with BHI’s strategic and operational directions.

This role is responsible for the overall delivery of vocational education courses within the Trades Faculty. This role will contribute to the strategic and operational planning processes and positively represent the organisation and faculty in a range of government and industry contexts, with students, employers, schools, partners and BHI employees across the Institute.

As a senior member of the faculty, this position is responsible for managing and monitoring the teaching and course delivery, employees, assessment strategies, modes of learning, student engagement and experience and reporting to maintain a financially sustainable department. This role will work closely with management to respond innovatively and flexibly to address changes in VET and regulatory requirements for course delivery to enhance student experiences and outcomes and will make significant contribution to teaching strategies and directions.

About You:

  • A relevant degree or approved AQF Level 6 or above qualification.
  • Relevant trade related, and/or professional qualification in one or more courses related to the role with extensive industry knowledge in a nominated field within the portfolio.
  • Demonstrated extensive skills and teaching experience, within the VET environment with extensive understanding and application of federal and state’s legal and regulatory requirements for the VET context.
  • Demonstrated understanding of VET policy, government education sector educational delivery and pedagogy, as well as knowledge and understanding industry and government funding opportunities.
  • Significant educational leadership and managerial ability and experience with acknowledged excellence in academic leadership and developing strategic directions.
  • Extensive experience in leading and managing teams related to VET compliance and relevant quality standards with a strong understanding of competency-based training and assessment
  • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of key global, national and state drivers to inform decision making.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of awards?and agreements.?
  • Demonstrates comprehensive understanding and routine application of the AQTF2010 and the VRQA Guidelines for VET providers.
