Fluent Commerce is a rapidly growing business that heavily invests in enablement and learning to scale self-service across the partner network and its broad customer base. It’s an exciting time to join the business!

We are looking for a hands-on, self-driven individual to address content gaps, extract valuable information from SMEs, and create concise, structured, and consistent documentation.

If you have a passion for writing, whether through a blog or an open-source project, share it with us! We are interested in seeing how you value content in your work and provide value to your audience.

Here are some examples of what we think great documentation looks like:
We recently re-platformed our documentation from markdown to a Headless CMS with async content workflows and pre-defined structured content templates. These templates make it easy to adhere to structure and enable high content reuse. We are getting good async collaboration from key SMEs, but driving this engagement and continuously improving existing content are things we want to improve.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Extract useful information from Slack and improve relevant docs
  • Regularly monitor analytics tools (Algolia, GoogleAnalytics, HotJar, docs@ email) and improve relevant content
  • Liaise with SMEs to extract relevant related information
  • Close content gaps based on Bloom's taxonomy
  • Implement content writing best practices and adherence to standards
  • Help shape writing guidelines
  • Highlight great content to inspire SMEs to contribute
  • Writing release notes based on developer input/drafts
  • Audit existing content and consolidate information into logical pieces.
  • Be an editor towards the end of the content production lifecycle to ensure tone, voice, and style guidelines.
  • Working with our UX team to translate research results into content improvements.
  • up-skill writing internally

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise:

  • Experience: 2-5 years of experience as a technical writer or similar role (not in a role but open source project? That’s fine too)
  • Writing Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a keen eye for detail and accuracy.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to understand and translate complex technical information into clear and concise documentation.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Organizational Skills: Excellent organizational and time management skills to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Self-driven and hands-on: We expect you to drive continuous improvements of existing content, or drive gap-assessments.
  • Adopting structured work approaches and processes
  • Enjoying the challenge of solving issues through written documentation
  • Domain:
    • E-commerce / Order Management Systems (OMS) (nice to have)
    • SaaS (must have)
  • Technology concepts (ordered by importance):
    • Cloud architecture
    • Application manifests / JSON
    • Understanding/Reading code
    • Workflows
    • Event-driven architecture/Event-driven systems
    • React
    • Java
    • AWS stack
    • Docker

Benefits:

  • Flexibility-Work on your terms, when and where it suits you while embodying our company culture
  • Centrally located tech office (SYDNEY PREFERRED/NEGOTIABLE) – Located in The Rocks, Sydney, we have a fun new office space with outdoor terrace and views of the Sydney Harbour Bridge!
  • Flexible and supportive leave policies – Including generous paid parental leave and paid leave for your birthday so you can celebrate.
  • Culture is key – We have a great team and enjoy regular social events to foster a collaborative, supportive, and fun work environment.
  • A share in Fluent Commerce’s success – Share options scheme for all employees.
  • Advance your career – We invest in your future by providing an allowance to help accelerate your learning and professional development.
  • Bring your whole self to work: At Fluent, we strive to create and nurture a culture where every employee can bring their whole self to work, feel inspired, and be empowered to do their life’s work (or be their best self).
  • Enablement and learning is a growing team, and opportunities are always available.
  • For example, you could potentially have a team of technical writers in the future, take ownership of the continuous improvement and development of the documentation platform, or collaborate more closely with the UX team to strategize research on documentation improvements or content topics.
  • We are happy to discuss how to make this arrangement fit your life circumstances. We’d like to have someone on-site at least a couple of days a week in our Sydney office, but we are happy to adjust. You would be ideally available full-time, but we are also open to candidates who would like to work fewer hours or have a day off during the week.
