Your Opportunity

Our Cosmos operation is an underground nickel mine, currently in care and maintenance, located near Leinster in Western Australia.

We are looking for an Emergency Services Officer to join the team. The ESO at Cosmos is responsible for developing and maintaining the operation’s emergency response capability to ensure the team and site are prepared and drilled in the event of an emergency.

The key accountabilities of the role include:

  • Providing leadership and strategic direction in site emergency preparedness;
  • Developing and executing training plans, both internal and external for increasing and maintaining the capability of the Emergency Response Team;
  • Maintain a high standard of equipment availability through regular inspections, servicing and carrying out required maintenance;
  • Influencing and driving commitment to the ER function on-site;
  • Managing the sites medical facility and providing treatment to employees where required;
  • Managing the sites poison permit;
  • Assisting with the implementation of the sites safety management system;
  • Assisting with incident investigations; and
  • Responsible for all statutory reporting in into the DEMIRS safety reporting system.

Your Experience

The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to workplace safety and thrive being part of a team. You will also bring the following:

  • Certificate III in Mines Emergency Response & Rescue and/or Public Safety – Fire Fighting;
  • Competence in all aspects of mine site Emergency Response including but not limited to Closed Circuit Regenerative Breathing Apparatus – BG4, Open Circuit Breathing Apparatus, Fire suppression, Hazmat, Rope Rescue, Vehicle extrication, Confined Space Rescue, Wildfire and Aviation;
  • Certificate IV in Workplace Training & Assessment (TAE40116);
  • Advanced first aid certificate;
  • Valid HR driver’s Licence;
  • Certificate IV in Health Care qualification (Desirable);
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a large number of stakeholders from various diverse backgrounds; and
  • National Police Clearance obtained within the last two months.
