About the team
Our Operations & Passenger Delivery (OPD) team is committed to keeping Melbourne moving by delivering exceptional passenger experiences through on-time, reliable, safe and efficient services.
We achieve this through face-to-face interactions by our frontline teams, supported by our safety operations, operational readiness, and network performance teams.
About the role
The Data Analyst's role is to analyse business data to provide the organisation with actionable insights regarding current and future performance, customer experience and opportunities for improvement for Metro Trains Melbourne. The role will involve engagement will all aspects of the organisation including; safety, operations, customer, and finance; utilising robust analytics to improve overall business performance and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities-

Collaborate with Operation Control and Management Systems (OCMS) to build data that is regularly required by OPD into the enterprise data model, so that OPD can easily extract reliable and accurate data to inform business planning and improvement initiatives.

Develop and implement data models and algorithms, that integrate data from multiple sources, to extract insights and information to enable the business to easily identify root causes of poor performance and predict trends and issues so that remedial action can be taken to mitigate impacts.

Analyse data using statistical methods to identify trends, patterns, and correlations, identifying opportunities to improve performance or root causes for poor performance.

Create visualisations such as charts, graphs, and dashboards to present data findings to the OPD leadership team so that complex information can be distilled into easily understood information to explain data trends and support business process improvements and decisions.

Provide actionable insights that clearly articulate the root cause of performance issues or business problems so that stakeholders have clarity on where to focus improvement initiatives.

Monitor data integrity and escalate identified issues to OCMS so that OPD has accurate and reliable data to inform decisions.

Stay updated with industry trends in data analytics tools and techniques so that best practice can integrated into OPD data and analytics processes.
About You-

Tertiary qualification in Business, Science or Engineering
-
Experience in PowerBi and data visualisations through dashboarding
-
Advanced knowledge of SQL, R or Python
-
Advanced data modelling skills and knowledge.

Strong analytical skills to be able to identify trends, patterns, and insights from data.

Excellent communication, consulting, facilitation, and presentation skills with the ability to communicate actionable insights through data.
-
Ability to translate and communicate complex technical information to various non-technical stakeholders ensuring the information is understood.

Ability to work autonomously and in a team.
-
Previous experience in data analysis and reporting proficiencies to provide relevant information to influence business implementation of processes to create efficient outputs.

Previous experience in working with diverse stakeholders to deliver analytics.

Data visualisation and Visio skills.

Problem solving skills with strong attention to detail.
-
Project management experience is preferred.

Strong mathematical & numeracy skills is preferred.

Operations, public transport or rail industry experience is preferred.
