Positioned within Council's Planning & Building department, this position will see you responsible for providing quality specialist services in all facets of planning enforcement, statutory planning, and subdivision control and other services provided by the Planning and Building Department.

What does your work look like?
Reporting into our Coordinator Statutory Planning, your responsibilities will include:
- Statutory Investigation and Enforcement:
- In conjunction with the Coordinator of Statutory Planning and other relevant parties ascertain compliance with land use planning and development, the planning scheme, liquor licenses and planning permits.
- Carry out inspections in consultation with other team members where necessary.
- Make judgement and determine the lawfulness of any matter being investigated and the interpretation of legislation, the planning scheme, planning permits and other relevant documents.
- Assist in the gathering of information for Briefs of Evidence and legal proceedings and as directed by the Coordinator of Statutory Planning.
- Advise developers, responsible builders, property owners and occupiers of their obligations under the provision of land use planning and development legislation, the planning scheme, planning permits and CSMPs.
- Statutory Planning:
- Process low complexity planning and subdivision applications and undertake other planning assignments with a minimum of delay and with full professional judgement and competence.
- Process secondary consent applications and plans for endorsement;
- Confer with applicants, objectors, government agencies, internal departments and other interested parties to resolve planning issues.
- Prepare written reports, conditions and make recommendations on statutory planning matters for consideration by Council in accordance with adopted delegations.
What we're looking for
- A tertiary qualification in Urban Planning or related discipline.
- Relevant experience in Statutory Planning and/or Planning Enforcement
- Current Victorian Driver's Licence
- Knowledge of the relevant planning legislation including;
- Planning and Environment Act 1987
- Subdivision Act 1988
- Ability to apply town planning knowledge and identify appropriate methods and techniques to solve problems and satisfactorily complete tasks in conjunction with the Manager Planning and Building and the Statutory Planning Coordinator.
- Management skills, including the ability to deal with high volume workload, manage time, set priorities, plan and organise own work.
- Ability to work in a team environment, including with other Council departments and on Council committees to assist in solving intra-organisational problems and satisfactorily complete tasks.
