The Opportunity
Moonee Valley City Council is seeking a passionate and dedicated Community Recovery Support Officer to assist in the ongoing recovery efforts following the October 2022 Maribyrnong River flood. Reporting to the Community Recovery Officer, this role will play a crucial part in working with affected communities to identify their recovery needs, develop and deliver local programs, and provide leadership in building community resilience. You will have the opportunity to contribute to meaningful recovery initiatives, ensuring that flood-impacted residents receive the necessary support to rebuild and prepare for future disasters.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with affected communities to identify their recovery needs and ensure inclusivity in all recovery efforts.
- Assist in the development and distribution of emergency preparedness and recovery-related information, ensuring it meets local community needs.
- Support residents in navigating relief and recovery services.
- Assist in building community resilience to respond to emergency risks and future disasters.
- Facilitate community meetings, gather feedback, and share valuable insights to inform recovery efforts.
- Develop and implement community-based initiatives, events, and resilience programs to strengthen local networks and build long-term disaster preparedness.
- Report on recovery data and outcomes, ensuring clear communication with internal and external stakeholders.
- Collaborate with state government departments, community agencies, and local businesses to achieve recovery goals.
- Provide administrative support for grants management and community recovery groups as required.
- Assist in developing and distributing information on recovery matters.
Skills & Experience
Ideal candidate will have experience in emergency management, community recovery, or related disciplines including community development with a strong focus on working with vulnerable clients and communities. You should be skilled in building collaborative relationships, communicating effectively with diverse stakeholders, and delivering community-centered initiatives. A solid understanding of emergency management frameworks, community resilience, and recovery planning is desirable. Additionally, your project management and facilitation skills will allow you to work independently and as part of a team to achieve recovery goals. Experience in event planning and program delivery, particularly in the context of disaster recovery, is highly desirable.
