The opportunity

This is a newly created role, working closely with the Data Engineering Manager, Analysts, and Engineers where you will contribute to, and / or lead the technical design, implementation, and ongoing maintenance of product and data platform features from concept to end-of-life, ensuring alignment across all stakeholders throughout the development cycle.

Working with a team of data specialists you will be responsible for the implementation of patterns and best practice approaches for the delivery of Data Products, as well as coaching, mentoring, reviewing the output and quality of work, and govern development practices and processes, contributing to the strategic direction of data-related assets and services.

This is a hands-on role within or across Delivery Teams, contributing to projects, enhancements, and technical support for the Netwealth investment and superannuation platform applications. You will have expertise in data platforms and workload patterns using various technologies that include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • SQL and Data Modelling Practices
  • Data Warehousing and Database Technologies (Snowflake, SQL Server)
  • File formats (CSV, Deltalake, Parquet, JSON, XML)
  • CI/CD Tools (GIT, Azure DevOps, Terraform)
  • Cloud Based Technologies and Common Data Architectures (Azure)
  • Understanding of messaging and service-oriented architectures (Kafka, APIs)
  • Reporting tools and Platforms (AAS, PowerBi)

About you

As a Senior Data Engineer, you understand a wide range of patterns, how to scale and have demonstrated ability to design and implement scalable, resilient solutions for high-traffic, mission-critical systems. Ideally you have previous experience working in a build-orientated role and can speak to the projects you’ve delivered.

Technical skills and experience you bring to the role;

  • strong background in data platform development and DevOps practices
  • exceptional problem-solving skills and the ability to navigate complex technical challenges
  • strong expertise in data engineering and data modelling practices
  • fostering DevOps culture and implementing IaC
  • establishing robust CI/CD pipelines
  • proven team management and mentoring abilities
  • expert in monitoring tools, analytics and observability
  • Finance industry experience is a plus
  • designing scalable, resilient cloud infrastructure
  • experience with Cloud Architecture, especially Azure
