About the role

Based at our Newstead office, the Policy Advisor will support the Manager, Strategic Policy to shape and deliver legislative, strategic and policy priorities related to national heavy vehicle reform.

Key responsibilities of this role are:

Assist with developing and implementing evidence-based regulatory policy (and other research projects) in line with the policy development cycle.

  • Develop and implement strategic heavy vehicle policy in alignment with the broader NHVR’s strategic plan.
  • Provide evidence-based advice to support informed decision-making on a range of legislative, strategic and operational policy matters relevant to the NHVR.
  • Proactively contribute to the development, implementation, evaluation and continued improvement of strategic policy and legislative frameworks.
  • Prepare a range of complex policy documents including briefing notes, policy position papers and options, reports, procedural documentation, templates and other sensitive correspondence.
  • Support enhancement of the NHVR capacity, capability, and strategic alignment through business improvement and development

About You

To be successful in this role you will possess

  • 3+ years’ experience as a Policy Advisor or related roles
  • Demonstrated experience with high levels of written, oral and interpersonal communication skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of, or the ability to quickly acquire knowledge of, the policy development cycle and its application within a regulatory environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage projects to deliver timely and effective results in a dynamic environment with competing priorities.
  • Demonstrated fundamental skills in; research, analysis and problem-solving, evidenced by an ability to frame complex issues clearly and precisely (including the preparation of reports, policy documentation, briefings, procedures and guidelines).
