About the role
This role is responsible for delivering engineering expertise across the scoping, design, and estimating of distribution, sub-transmission, and substation projects. You will also undertake minor survey works, asset recording, and contribute to the effective management of network assets, ensuring compliance with relevant policies, procedures, and industry standards.
Key responsibilities
- Provide effective engineering design and advice in relation to the design of underground lines, overhead lines and substations, to agreed standards, and in accordance with the relevant technical manuals, OH&S Act, ‘Safety in Design’ guidelines and customer requirements.
- Verify designs produced by others in accordance with agreed standards, ‘Safety in Design’ guidelines and company requirements.
- Assist with the development of design standards & policy in accordance with organisational, regulatory, and statutory requirements.
- Apply drafting techniques to produce substation, overhead and underground distribution and sub transmission system project plans
- Prepare cost and resource estimates for the design component of electrical distribution/sub- transmission/station system projects in a timely manner and in accordance with Network Services established procedures.
- Actively support and implement new or modified processes and systems
- Provide technical expertise and mentoring to design personnel in elements of Design and Design management.
- Consider the commercial/financial implications of all aspects in the provision of products and services to customers in order to maximise profit margins.

What you’ll need from day one
- Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical)
- Eligible and working towards one of the following (or already registered): National Engineering Registration (NER), Registered Professional Engineer of Professional Australia (RPEng)
- Eligible and working towards being registered with the Business Licensing Authority (BLA)
- Detailed knowledge and experience in Distribution Design principles and procedures.
- Knowledge of GIS, AutoCAD design (or equivalent), electrical networks, operation, and construction plan
- Understanding of Safety in Design practices
- Knowledge of construction methods and techniques through on-the-job experience.
