About us

At CitiPower and Powercor, we’re proud to deliver electricity to over a million Victorian customers every day through our network of poles and wires. But more than that, we’re here to power communities, support local businesses and keep critical services running smoothly. We’re essential to them all – and none of this happens without our people.

About the role

Applications are now open for our Asset Inspection Trainee intake, commencing in early February 2027.

Asset Inspectors are responsible for inspecting and assessing power poles and associated overhead and underground assets across our network, with the key purpose being to identify and categorise faults, defects, and condition of the poles.

This Traineeship will run over a 12-month period, combining formal paid classroom training and field work to enable you to gain the skills, competencies and experience required for an industry recognised certification (Certificate II in Electricity Supply Industry – Asset Inspection and Testing).

The role requires someone who is comfortable working autonomously and is willing to travel frequently. During the Traineeship period, our Trainees are required to travel and live away from home in areas all across our network.

This role is covered by the Electrix Pty Ltd & ETU Powerline Enterprise Agreement 2023-2026.

Traineeship eligibility:

• Valid Australian driver’s licence
• Live within 30 minutes or 50km from Horsham depot
  • If you do not meet this criteria and it is not addressed in your cover letter, your application may not be progressed.
• Dedication and commitment to working safely.
• At least one of the following pre-requisites:
  • Units 1 & 2 General Maths and English (Year 11 equivalent); or
  • VCAL or VCE Vocational Major; or
  • Cert 2 in Electrotechnology or equivalent.
    • If you are currently completing a pre-requisite subject, you are eligible to apply, as long as it will be successfully completed by the end of 2026.

We encourage candidates from all backgrounds to consider applying, whether you are leaving school, TAFE, have experience working in a different industry, or if perhaps you have decided university is not for you. We look for motivated individuals who want to be part of a team.

What’s next

All applications must be lodged online via our careers website and must include the following to be considered:

• A resume that clearly highlights your eligibility pre-requisite, and
• A cover letter.

If you are successful in progressing past our screening stage, future steps in the selection process may include online assessments, an interview (both video and face to face), practical assessments, and pre-employment checks.
