Your opportunity:
Aligned to Urban Utilities’ corporate strategy and core operations, the People and External Relations group is a key enabling function in our business, responsible for driving performance and achievement of the organisation’s objectives through the delivery of effective engagement, partnerships and relationships with our people and key external stakeholders.
Reporting to the Head of Stakeholder Relations, we currently have a 12 month fixed term opportunityfor aManager, Government & Industry Relations. This role,along with their team, focuses on the delivery of a work program that leverages Urban Utilities relationships with State and Federal Government, as well as industry and relevant sectors and in the communities it services to set the business up for success in delivering our future servicing strategies and our goal to reshape the water cycle.
This position has a key role in working across Urban Utilities and external stakeholders including Government, Seqwater and the Private sector to contribute to the achievement of Urban Utilities Corporate goals. This position has a key role in securing a position of influence for Urban Utilities as part of the 2032 Olympic & Paralympic Games.
Your key responsibilities will include:
Leadership - create positive and productive work environment, driving UU’s success, and developing strong, motivated teams
Stakeholder Engagement- develop and lead Urban Utilities engagement with government and other key stakeholders including industry engagement
Strategic Planning -Help guide thestakeholder engagement strategy, state government and industry engagement approach and develop and implement plans to deliver strategy with buy-in and input from key internal business stakeholders.
Policy Development – Contribute to the development of activities and policy through a robust understanding of the opportunities and solutions presented through engagement.
Representation -Represent Urban Utilities with State Government and relevant Industry Bodies Representatives and their respective offices
Issues Management – Identify and address issues through communications &engagement
You will lead a team of stakeholder specialists and the business in updating the stakeholder engagement strategy, as part of a broader external relations strategy, and endorsement of the strategy for the business, as well as the delivery of an existing work program and development of a new team work program for FY25/26.
You will also lead the team through a change process in aligning with a new internal structure and processes to maximise opportunities to leverage engagement across all external engagement groups.
Please note, this position may also require on-call duties outside of standard working hours due to the critical nature of the role.
About you:

Tertiary qualifications in Business, Communications,Marketing, and/or other relevant discipline/s.
IAP2 Certification (highly regarded)
Leadership experience within the water, infrastructure, planning or utilities sector, public sector or other critical services.
Proven experience in strategic planning, organisational leadershipand risk management.
Proven experienceinfluencingsenior stakeholders and building effective working relationships.
Expertise in project and change management, with the ability to understand and navigate complex regulatory and legislative environments, including in a political context.
Strong communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and guide cross-functional teams.
