ABOUT CANNINGTON

Our Cannington operation is one of the world's largest producers of silver and lead. Located in northwest Queensland, Cannington boasts an underground mine and processing facility situated approximately 800 kilometres west of Townsville and a concentrate handling facility at the Port of Townsville.

Flights are direct to the onsite airport, and the mine is only 3.5 km from camp—the perfect distance for a sunset walk or run home along a purpose-built walking track. The onsite accommodation includes meal services, sports/gym facilities, swimming pool, music room, and social area.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This role is a 12-month fixed-term contract on an 8:6 or 4:3 4:3 8:6 roster, FIFO from Townsville or Brisbane or DIDO from the Mount Isa region.

As the Specialist Environment, you will provide specialist support to operational and functional teams to ensure environmental compliance, risk mitigation, and performance improvement in line with the company’s global standards.

Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to:

  • Coordinate and conduct field work, sampling, and data collection to assess environmental compliance.
  • Manage environmental data, QA registers, and reporting for internal and regulatory requirements.
  • Execute risk assessments and internal assurance activities for site-based environmental operations.
  • Provide operational support in meeting site licence and South32 standard requirements, environmental emergencies and improvement projects.

ABOUT YOU

You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:

  • Proven ability to manage environmental compliance within mining or heavy industry settings.
  • Strong relationship-building skills with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Effective communication and influencing skills, with the ability to present data and insights clearly.
  • Self-motivated organised, and adaptable with a focus on health, safety, and environmental responsibility.

Qualifications for this position are:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Engineering or similar, or equivalent considering experience.
  • Current manual Driver’s Licence
