Due to further growth, we are seeking a Senior Ecologist to join our dynamic team in our Melbourne office. You will step into a friendly team environment, with dedicated and enthusiastic staff committed to producing high quality service and deliverables to our clients.
About the role:
Founded on your expertise in the fields of ecology, environmental science, and management, you will contribute to the consultancy work of the Ecology Team within the Environment and Geosciences Group through the delivery of projects in a safe, efficient, cost-effective and timely manner. You will actively support the project managers and team leaders by undertaking research, field investigations and preparation of reports in scientific areas of ecology and environmental approvals. You will ensure project outcomes based on scoped objectives, deadlines and budgets are met and managed appropriately, with the application of sound technical knowledge and quality-assured data. Key to the role will be the responsibility for managing client relationships, delivery of high-quality technical work, problem solving and team engagement.
Day to day tasks would involve:
Displaying expertise in the fields of ecology, environmental science, environmental management, and environmental approvals
Providing technical advice to a variety of infrastructure and natural resource management projects for private and public sector clients
Planning, leading and implementing scientific research and field investigations as required in specialist technical areas (including ecology, environmental management, regulatory approvals)
Managing your own small to medium sized projects from end-to-end
Ensuring work output is of technically high standard and activities are commercially viable
Demonstrating a solid understanding of environmental legislation and maintaining up-to-date knowledge of current industry standards, environmental legislation and approvals processes
Preparation of technical reports by utilising conventional standards expected for scientific reporting
Maintaining key relationships with internal and external clients while actively pursuing new business opportunities
Acting as a professional mentor to junior staff and assisting with their professional development
Provision of technical ecological guidance to the group as required.
Prepare and contribute to proposal and bids to support business development activities.
Prioritise work with the team to meet business and project delivery needs
Uphold and promote the culture and values of Stantec in all undertakings.

Minimise and control risk by commitment to the Stantec Quality, Health & Safety programmes and ensuring proactive use of our project management systems.
Other duties as reasonably required.
To be successful for this role you'll need:
Tertiary qualification in Ecology, Zoology, Botany, Natural Resource Management Environmental Science or related discipline
5 to 10 years practical, post-graduate experience, preferably gained within a consulting or infrastructure sector, Local Government or regulatory agency.
Knowledge of Victorian flora, fauna, and ecosystems and experience in undertaking field surveys including Vegetation Quality Assessments and targeted species surveys
Understanding of Victorian and Federal environmental approvals (e.g. EPBC Act, EE Act, FFG Act, P&E Act, EPA)
Great interpersonal skills and ability to build client relationships and liaise with stakeholders
Experience in construction environmental management and the preparation of environmental management plans
Willingness to work in regional Victoria or interstate as required.
Ability to pass drug and alcohol testing and obtain a police clearance
A reasonable level of physical fitness along with flexibility to travel, as field work will be involved.
Hold a current valid Drivers Licence.
