Sunwater is seeking a Health, Safety and Training Advisor to provide contemporary professional local and regional support to the Burnett and Lower Mary region. Our footprint in this region is diverse and disperse and you will be required to occasionally travel up to 300km to access the region’s most distant depots.

The role:

Reporting to the Health and Safety Operations Manager, you will provide support in relation to the management of health and safety risk, provide expertise in training and assessment, ensure fit for purpose systems and procedures are in place and embedded to provide optimal outcomes. You will also find new ways to embed contemporary health, safety and training practices and lead by example and take ownership of difficult issues. Other responsibilities include:

  • Establish and maintain robust processes for monitoring health and safety performance, including the measurement of lag and lead indicators, implementation of assurance programs and provision of timely reports to stakeholders.
  • Develop and implement contemporary HSE management strategies, objectives and targets in partnership with Line Management with the aim of creating a culture where there is individual and team commitment to and demonstration of safe work practices.
  • Assume a lead role in educating, training and coaching local and regional teams in relation to health and safety risks and management strategies.
  • Oversee the Injury Management (including Psychosocial injury Management) function for local and regional business units including the development of return-to-work plans.

You will bring:

We are seeking a Health, Safety and Training Advisor who has exceptional communication, consultation and collaboration attributes and well developed capabilities in leadership, change management, mentoring and the provision of training. You will have demonstrated initiative and self-direction, strong business acumen, analytical and problem solving skills and have the ability to formulate strategies and practices to minimise Health and Safety impacts. In addition, you will have:-

  • Tertiary qualifications in OHS or relevant fields
  • Cert IV in Training and Assessment
  • Lead ICAM qualification
  • Class ‘C’ driver’s licence for manual vehicle
  • 10+ years’ experience in a similar role within construction projects or operational environment
  • High level literacy and competency in Microsoft Office Suite and incident reporting and investigation software
  • Ability to develop, collate and present verbal and written reports to Line Management, Senior and Executive Leadership Teams
  • Lead Auditor – IMS qualification (highly desirable)
