The opportunity:
Our Tunnels and Infrastructure team is looking for M&E expert for a major tunnel project in New South Wales. This is a key leadership role, responsible for overseeing the mechanical and electrical systems within a road tunnel. The ideal candidate will have 10-15 years of relevant experience, with a strong background in tunnel projects and a solid understanding of both mechanical and electrical systems.
This role is to be based in Sydney.
Key responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
- Lead and manage a small team of up to 4 Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) engineers, ensuring effective coordination and collaboration across all testing and commissioning activities.
- Plan, manage, and execute the testing and commissioning processes for all mechanical systems (tunnel ventilation, fire safety systems) and electrical systems (lighting, control systems).
- Ensure seamless integration of mechanical and electrical systems, working closely with other engineering disciplines to ensure systems meet design and operational specifications.
- Monitor and enforce adherence to all relevant industry standards, regulations, and quality control procedures. Ensure that all testing and commissioning activities meet project specifications and safety requirements.
- Liaise with the project management team, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure efficient and timely delivery of the testing and commissioning scope.
- Identify and resolve technical issues that arise during the testing and commissioning process.
- Provide regular updates and detailed reports to senior management on progress, issues, and outcomes of testing and commissioning activities.
About you
This is our desired list of qualifications and experience, but please do not be discouraged if you do not meet all of them. We value your unique strengths, your willingness to learn, and your aspiration to achieve success.
- Extensive experience in testing and commissioning within the infrastructure or tunnelling industry, with a strong focus on road tunnel projects.
- Hands-on experience with mechanical and electrical systems used in tunnel environments, including tunnel ventilation, fire suppression systems (wet and dry fire), electrical lighting, and control systems.
- Proven ability to lead and manage a small team of engineers, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment.
- Solid understanding of tunnel engineering systems and the integration of mechanical and electrical services in such environments. Knowledge of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) in road tunnels is advantageous but not essential.
- Strong understanding of relevant safety standards and regulatory compliance requirements for tunnel projects in Australia.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively manage stakeholder expectations and report progress to senior management.
- A degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Civil Engineering (or equivalent) is essential. Relevant certifications and professional memberships are a plus.
