We own, operate and maintain the electricity transmission and distribution network in Tasmania. We deliver a safe, cost-effective and reliable electricity supply to more than 295,000 residential, commercial and industrial customers. We facilitate the transfer of electricity between Victoria and Tasmania via Basslink, the sub-sea electricity interconnector. We also provide telecommunications and technology services.

About the role

Band 5 - base salary from $117,700 per annum (plus super) - total package to be negotiated with preferred candidate based on skills and experience

We are seeking a highly skilled Data Scientist to join our dynamic Data & Advanced Analytics Team. As a Data Scientist, you will play an important role in enabling data-informed decision-making across various business units. By developing sophisticated diagnostic and predictive models, you will help identify opportunities for business improvement and transformation through data science methodologies, partnering with leaders along the way. The role is also responsible for:

  • Collaboration with digital teams to initiate, monitor and maintain data pipelines or models
  • Uplift of the business’ data literacy by presenting findings and recommendations in a clear, concise, and actionable manner.
  • Continuously improve ways of working, including processes and technologies that support analytics development.

About you

To be successful in this exciting new role in our Strategy team, you will bring strong analytical and problem solving skills with a proven ability to develop and implement complex diagnostic or predictive models. You will have experience using structured methodologies to solve real-life business problems in a commercial setting, with exposure to a range of fields in data science (ie simulations, predictive models etc, and the ability to influence using data and analytics.

You will also bring:

  • Academic qualifications in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics or other relevant field
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, SQL or Javascript, and experience with data manipulation and analysis libraries.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to work autonomously but also collaboratively across numerous areas of the business.
