The role:

Opportunity for a Mechanical Supervisor to join our team based in Garden Island. You will provide support for the day to day management of multi-disciplined work group employed on a designed project, both in the workshop and aboard vessels, ensuring the project objectives in relation to Cost, Time, Safety and Quality and Environment are achieved. As the Supervisor, you will be responsible for providing support to the Line Manager.

Responsibilities will include;

  • Oversee the day to day management of a team of trades and non-trades employees and team leaders ensuring high quality workmanship and OH&S compliance

  • Provide technical guidance and assistance in support of business unit deliverables

  • Prepare reports of a technical nature on tasks or assignments as required

  • Contribute and demonstrate work planning, estimating and scheduling activities and ensure proficient implementation

  • Ability to Supervision of small multi skilled teams or other trades as required.

  • Identify and implement continuous improvement activities.

  • Identify changes that will impact the project or schedule. and communicate these to the Project Manager, Project Staff, Project Planner, Contracts Administrator and Quality Control Officer to ensure a successful project outcome.

  • Assist in managing any local industrial relations issues that may arise during the course of the project.

  • Carry out survey reports, estimates and work methodologies to assist project team .

  • Communicate/Liaise between THALES and the customer or their representative.

  • Assist with the preparation of correspondence and reports to the customer or THALES management.

  • Attend meetings with senior supervisors, managers, client and ship staff.

  • Present Tool box talks to production team.

  • Assist with the development of skills of team members including Apprentices.

  • Motivate, direct and communicate effectively through using skills and knowledge

How about you?

  • Trade Certificate in Fitting and Machining

  • Strong mechanical background with skills in diagnostics and problem solving

  • Thorough knowledge of complex high-volume machinery

  • Must have a good working knowledge of the policy, procedure, work instructions and systems used at THALES marine

  • Ability to identify problems, examine alternative and provide innovative solution/recommendation

  • Ability to use initiative and take independent action when appropriate

  • Working knowledge of computer system eg Cincom, Etivity.

  • Willingness to assist with change implementation in work practise and culture

  • Required to work additional hours as necessary
