We’re inventing the future, right here, right now, at Thales. We design the critical security solutions of tomorrow by combining the curiosity to explore, the intelligence to question and the vision to create. Together we solve complicated problems by combining our experience in the market with our leading research and development capabilities.
Thales is now hiring for enthusiastic and motivated engineers to join the OneSKY project team based in Melbourne Australia.
Thales Australia’s Airspace Mobility Solutions (AMS) business, part of the Global Business Unit Land and Air Systems, is providing leading edge Air Traffic Management (ATM), Unmanned Traffic Management (UTM), Security and Digital Aviation solutions for the Commercial and Defence sectors.
The AMS business manages 11% of the world’s airspace and with revenues of over 500 million Euros worldwide, is the global market leader in airspace management solutions.
A key program in the AMS business is OneSKY, which is the most complex transformation of air traffic management in Australian aviation history. The OneSKY program will deliver a Civil Military Air Traffic Management System (CMATS). CMATS will replace Air Traffic Management system components of The Australian Advanced Air Traffic System (TAAATS) operated by Airservices Australia and the Australian Defence Air Traffic System (ADATS) operated by the Department of Defence. Through common operational and technical requirements, CMATS will improve safety, security, interoperability and sustainment. It will also improve efficiency, capacity and support harmonised ATM processes and procedures for collaborative flow management and dynamic flexible use of airspace.
About the jobs
We are looking for candidates with relevant Air Traffic Management (ATM) experience in the following areas:
Systems Engineer (Simulation)
As a system engineer you work in an international multidisciplinary feature team focused on the design, development and validation of the Simulation sub-system (SIM) of an ATM system. In the team you are responsible for the technical design and you lead the product-release plans.
Activities include amongst others:
- Organize the co-engineering of the feature team
- Design and maintain the solution engineering system artefacts of the function: capability description, functional behaviour, requirements, data exchanges (internal and external interfaces)
- Ensure the transversal constraints related to the function are considered (Safety, Human Factor, Performance, Security)
- Contribute to the definition the validation strategy
- Define the set of KPI enabling to follow the progress of the function development and communicates on it
- Manage the master schedule of the function definition, integration, validation and verification along with the evidences needed to support the safety case and security accreditation
- Accept the delivery of the features
- Contribute and participate to the reviews (SOR, SFR, FIRR, SwRR) of the sub-system and system
Systems Engineer (Airspace)
As a system engineer you work in an international team focused on the definition of the functions of an ATM system.
Activities include amongst others:
- Provide a trade-off between operational needs and associated variability, system architecture constraints and CSCI technical constraints
- Provide the function description in the system baseline: SSS (Sub-System Specification)
- Imply in the function impact analysis on the rest of the system baseline: system model, SSDD (Sub-System Design Description) and ICD (Interface Control Document)
- Ensure SS (System Segment) requirements coverage by the function
- Ensure system architecture compliance
- Provide function overview
- Provide CSCI (Computer Software Configuration Item) allocation for each SSS requirements
of the function - Ensure CSCI consider all SSS requirements of the function
- Provide use case definition
- Ensure validation tests consider all use cases of the function
- Ensure verification tests consider all SSS requirements of the function
- Provide support for safety analysis, performance analysis, defect analysis and dataset production
Systems Engineer (Profile)
- We have a need for a Senior Systems Engineer (Profile) for one of the key CMATS subsystems, TopSKY, which provides the core Air Traffic Management functionality of CMATS.
- In this role you will work in an international multidisciplinary feature team focused on the design, development and validation of the TopSKY subsystem with a focus on Profile Management.
- Design and maintain the systems engineering artefacts of the Function, including; requirements, capability description, functional behaviour and data exchanges (internal and external interfaces)
- Ensure the transversal constraints related to the function are considered (Safety, Human Factor, Performance, Security)
- Contribute to the definition of the validation strategy
- Contribute and participate to the technical reviews (SOR, SFR, FIRR, SwRR)
- Provides technical oversight to other teams within the project/bid, ensuring that the designed solution is implemented as per the design and in accordance to the project/bid schedule and cost and quality constraints.
- Accept the delivery of the features
- Define and report on KPIs for the function
- Manage the master schedule of the function definition, integration, validation and verification along with the evidences needed to support the safety case and security accreditation
About you
- Degree in electrical engineering, computer science, aerospace engineering or similar field
- Must Have knowledge of Air Traffic Management
- Communication skills and able to work in multidisciplinary teams
- High level of creativity, initiative, pragmatism and persuasiveness
- Fluency in spoken and written English
- System Engineering tools knowledge such as DOORS
- System Modelling experience would be favourably looked upon
