As part of our Vehicles and Tactical Systems (VTS) domain in Thales Australia, the Commercial Manager will provide legal / commercial management support across to the Protected Vehicles (PRV) segment, as one of four segments of VTS.

Within the PRV business, Thales has signed a number of significant contracts with customers in Australia and overseas for the delivery of its Hawkei and Bushmaster vehicle platforms, as well as ongoing maintenance, support and supply of the vehicles.

Execution and delivery of these contracts is a key strategic and operational objective for Thales Australia. As is the identification and capture of new and emerging markets for the export of the vehicles that will require legal support.

In this exciting role, the successful incumbent will apply legal / commercial expertise and knowledge into an area of significant growth and will have a true impact towards commercial strategies to deliver optimal commercial outcomes.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the legal and commercial management outcomes to ensure project delivery outcomes are achieved for PRV key contracts

  • Provide timely and practical legal / commercial advice to a diverse portfolio of contracts and opportunities

  • Review, draft and negotiate contracts with customers and suppliers for new opportunities and contracts

  • Lead commercial discussion about use and rights associated with intellectual property (IP) as part of projects, contracts and programs of work

  • Lead the team of PRV contract managers to deliver on projects and identify and put in place proactive steps to mitigate the risk to no degradation to completion

  • Work collaboratively with support functions such as Bids, Procurement, Finance, HSE and Quality support functions to proactively drive value add outcomes

  • Be a key member of the PRV Leadership Team

Requirements:

  • Sophisticated experience in commercial management role(s) with a law degree/ legal experience, or practising law combined with some commercial experience

  • Track record of delivering project outcome

  • Defence industry experience highly desirable

  • Experience with government contracting (e.g. ASDEFCON) desirable

  • Understanding of intellectual property law and application desirable

  • Professional Commercial / Contract management qualifications desirable

  • Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to interact effectively with senior management, customers and partners

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Superior analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Strongly focused and self-motivated to overachieve goal

  • High energy, driven to innovate, and a team player

  • Relevant degree in law, finance, accounting, commerce, business
