The role:

Thales Australia is a premier provider of systems, products and services in the defence, security and civil markets in Australia and throughout the world. The Thales Australia AWS business offers ship repair, maintenance and asset management / in-service support capabilities for commercial and naval ships in Australia. The business also offers the provision of docking, reticulated services and facility maintenance within Garden Island.

Opportunity for a Chief Electrician to join our Above Water Systems Business based in Garden Island. You will work with the AWS Team to ensure Electrical compliance requirements are met in accordance with The Safe Work Australia Code of Practice for Managing Electrical Risks in the Workplace and referred to state Regulations/Acts/Legislation.

You will also be responsible for delivery of Electrical maintenance and installation tasks and lead and manage the electrical team ensuring safe, efficient and effective work practices are maintained whilst driving continuous improvement.

Duties will include;

  • Ensure all Electrical work undertaken across AWS sites is conducted in accordance with The Safe Work Australia Code of Practice for Managing Electrical Risks in the Workplace and state regulations

  • Ensure OQE records are up to date and stored for future reference for all Electrical work undertaken Ensure all relevant/mandatory details are captured on OQE.

  • Managing teams of supervisors, tradespeople and trades assistants to delivery maintenance and installation tasks on vessels and facilities.

  • Ongoing Employee procedure training / refreshers

  • Conduct site Audits ensuring compliance to the requirements of the Managing Electrical Risks in the Workplace Code of Practice and state regulations

  • Monitor compliance with scheduled audits/improvements

  • Ensure electrical team resources meet workload demand with the required competencies and qualifications

About you:

  • Highly effective leadership skills

  • Electrical Trade qualified holding a current Electrical Licence as a nominated qualified supervisor

  • Hold an Electrical Contractor’s Licence

  • Demonstrated strong knowledge of requirements as per applicable Australian Standards

  • Ability to read/interpret electrical drawings and communicate requirements to various stakeholders
