The Role:

An excellent opportunity for an experienced Boilermaker to join our expanding team at Garden Island. In this role, you will apply your extensive trade skills in fabrication and welding, supporting our marine business within a multi-disciplinary team across a variety of environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manufacture all types of steel work from technical drawings or samples, using various metals, including Carbon Steel, Aluminium, and Stainless Steel.

  • Gain expertise in structural fabrication and ship repair methods.

  • Become proficient in all welding processes, including GMAW, GTAW, and MMAW, across both ferrous and non-ferrous metals.

  • Operate all workshop equipment and machinery.

  • Work independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team.

  • Willingness to engage in a range of ship repair activities, including light and heavy fabrication, sheet metal, and pipe fabrication.

  • Work in confined spaces, or a willingness to undergo the necessary training.

  • Contribute to the creation of JSEA's and Risk Assessments.

  • Ensure adherence to quality control procedures during welding processes.

Skills & Experience Required:

  • Experience in the shipbuilding/repair industry is preferred, though experience in other heavy engineering sectors such as mining, marine, power stations, gas lines, or bridges will be considered.

  • Appropriate trade qualifications in Boilermaking or Heavy Fabrication.

  • Familiarity with marine practices, ship layout, and technical interpretation.

  • Proficiency in welding processes (MMAW, GTAW, GMAW).

  • Welding certification is advantageous.

  • EWP license and other Workcover/Comcare certificates are desirable (e.g., basic rigging/dogging ticket, forklift ticket).

  • Ability to interpret and work from structural drawings.

  • Familiarity with general workshop machinery and welding equipment.

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision within a multi-disciplinary team.

  • Strong knowledge of commercial safety standards and Occupational Health and Safety Regulations.
