What you’ll contribute to:
As a Technical Specialist and DBA in the Technology and Infrastructure team you will work closely with our Development, Technical Services and Support teams. You will play a pivotal role, bringing expertise in various technical domains that are critical to our operations. With a primary focus on OpenEdge RDBMS Database Administration and support, you will also work on advanced Linux scripting, Jenkins CI/CD Pipelines, containerisation with Docker, ESB & SOAP integration, and REST API integration.
What you'll be doing
- Manage and administer the OpenEdge RDBMS environment, including installation, configuration, and maintenance in our Cloud environment.
- Ensure database performance, security, and availability through proactive monitoring and maintenance.
- Implement backup and recovery strategies to safeguard critical data and minimize downtime.
- Analyze and optimize OpenEdge and SQL queries to enhance database performance and efficiency.
- Utilize indexing strategies, query rewriting, and schema design improvements to optimize query execution.
- Collaborate with developers to implement best practices for efficient data retrieval and manipulation.
- Define and implement coding standards for the Development team.
- Develop advanced scripts in Linux environments using Bash, Ant, Groovy and JS.
- Automate routine tasks and workflows to streamline operations and improve team efficiency.
- Integrate scripts with Jenkins CI/CD pipelines to facilitate continuous integration and deployment processes.
- Enable online monitoring using tools such as Nagios and NRPE.
- Update ticket statuses and details in JIRA.
- Liaise with developers, product managers, PMO, development coordinator, team leaders, developers, support and other teams across our business.
- Liaise with customers, suppliers and other third parties when required.
- Participate in and contribute to team meetings.
- Accurate time keeping using Revolution’s internal time tracking attendance systems.
- IT University Degree / Qualification.
- Minimal 3 years’ experience in RDBMS Database Administration (OpenEdge is preferred), query optimisation and performance tuning or 5 years’ experience in software development in an ERP / Relational Database environment with a focus on database design, queries and performance.
- Strong proficiency in Linux bash scripting, with a focus on automation and system
- integration.
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins or similar), ensuring smooth software delivery and deployment.
- Some experience in REST and SOAP integration methodologies, preferably with ConnectPlaza or equivalent ESB platforms.
- Good understanding of REST API design, implementation, and management.
- Ability and drive to learn new concepts and technologies.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues independently.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, capable of working effectively within cross[1]functional teams.
- Proficient in the use of MS Office products (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
- Proficient in written and spoken English.
- Well organised and analytical with great attention to detail.
- Self-starter, capable of working with minimal supervision.
- Great time management and prioritising to work toward fixed Service Level Agreements
