The Opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity for a self-motivated individual to join the Commissioning Team at Transgrid. The Communication Technician (Grade 2) will be maintaining, installing and commissioning complex communication and network infrastructure for both internal and external stakeholders, with due regard to agreed standards, quality and timeliness of completion.

You will provide technical support and advice associated with communication and network activities. An expectation of the role is to provide strong leadership with planning and coordination of work activities. Also, you will have extensive knowledge across multiple Communication and Network disciplines providing direction and on the job training for other staff. The position will be required to act as Team Leader for periods of time.

Duties and Responsibilities

What we expect from you:

  • High-level knowledge and experience in maintenance, installation and commissioning of Communication and Network Systems as used within Transgrid including but not limited to:
    • Communications and data cabling
    • Optical fibre splicing and testing
    • Multiplexing equipment including DWDM, SDH & PDH
    • Data network equipment
  • High level understanding of communication and network diagnostic techniques
  • Expertise in fault finding and interpretation of system and network diagrams Certification (or willingness to obtain) relevant Transgrid’s Power System Safety Rules categories

Skills & Experience:

  • Relevant diploma level qualifications or equivalent formal technical training qualifications and extensive experience as per relevant development plans
  • Hold relevant communication cabling licencing
  • A current NSW driver’s licence
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in communication and network infrastructure
  • Demonstrated oral and written communications skills
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Able to work autonomously as well as in team environments
  • Competent in the use of IT Systems, Microsoft Office applications and Enterprise Resource Planning software
