Electrical Inspector
As an Electrical Inspector designated by the Director of Building & Energy, this position is required to undertake complex inspection, investigation, and auditing activities, through utilising extensive technical and electrical knowledge and skills, to ensure the safety of consumer installations connected to the network, in compliance with Western Power’s Inspection System Plan and regulatory obligations.
This position is based at Hope Road, Jandakot depot.
Your Role in Action
- Comply with the regulatory and technical requirements of Western Power’s Inspection System Plan as agreed with, and approved by, EnergySafety.
- Safely and efficiently undertake compliance inspections on electric installations connected to or intended to be connected to Western Powers Network, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations, laws, and standards.
- In accordance with power granted under legislation, prepare and issue Inspectors Orders for non-compliant electric installations to the owner or person in control of the electric installation. Ensure installations with serious defects are not connected or reconnected to Western Power’s network until defects have been rectified.
- Undertake investigations into instances of non-compliance with electricity regulations and statutory requirements by electrical contractors and workers.
- Investigate and provide technical reports on electric shocks and fire in accordance with legislated requirements and as outlined within Western Power’s Inspection System Plan.
- Undertake complex progress inspections on major installations with a maximum demand greater than 250 amperes (includes HV installations).
- Provide evidence in Court through testimony to support prosecution proceedings by the State Solicitor’s Office.
- Provide specialist technical advice to Western Power network personnel and facilitate industry discussions effectively communicating legislative changes to Electrical Contractors and their workers.

- Current Electrical Workers License – essential
- Designated as an Inspector (Electrical)
- Certificate IV in Government Investigations
- Certificate of Energy Coordination Act 1994, Electricity Act 1945
- Detailed working knowledge of electrical transmission and distribution networks and their associated systems
- Detailed working knowledge of AS3000 and West Australian Electrical requirements
- Excellent stakeholder management skills and experience
- Experience in electrical metering and/or installation practices, regulations, and procedures
- Valid WA Driver’s License Class ‘C’ or ‘C-A’
