Main Roads Western Australia Overview

Main Roads Western Australia, along with the Public Transport Authority and the Department of Transport represent the Transport Portfolio and provide for the integration of the State’s transport operations and regulatory functions.

Representing one of the world's most expansive road networks valued at approximately $50 billion, we are committed to working cooperatively and productively across all levels of government, to ensure our road network meets the needs of the community, industry and stakeholders.

Position Overview

The successful applicants leadership style must embody our organisational values, as they utilise their expertise to ensure we create value in delivering world class outcomes for customers through a safe, reliable and sustainable road-based transport system.

To be successful, you will have proven experience in senior leadership, including in the management of multidisciplinary leaders and in providing high level technical/engineering advice for matters of a complex and critical nature. You will demonstrate a strategic mindset, shaping the services Main Roads delivers, and addressing the conflict and need to balance short term operational goals with long term plans and organisational goals.

As a General Manager, you recognise that leveraging off strong interagency partnerships with shared agendas can bring mutually beneficial outcomes. Furthermore, you are an advocate that these relationships are both valued and necessary in the mission to keep WA moving. Your leadership style will demonstrate confidence, compassion and empathy as you determine agency priorities and develop and empower your leaders to execute them. You will play a critical role to champion our organisations culture, founded in our values.

As the General Manager for either role, you will be a key leader in the state-wide development and management of road and road related assets. Working closely with each other, the General Managers will need to understand and anticipate the effect that their decisions may have on both metropolitan and regional road networks, bridges and statewide electrical assets. You will be required to proactively engage with key stakeholders, including local governments to ensure the development and management of plans and programs are in keeping with community and regional needs.
