THE OPPORTUNITY
Reporting to the Head Chef, the Kitchen Assistant will provide support in the day to day operation of Southern Metropolitan Cemeteries Trust (SMCT) kitchen based at Bunurong Memorial Park. The Kitchen Assistant will be responsible for a wide variety of catering and cleaning activities to ensure the effective and efficient operations of the kitchen as well as adhere to the maintenance of safe and hygienic operations within the kitchen.
Responsibilities include:
- Assist the Chef's in food preparation, including chopping, slicing, and organising ingredients.
- Maintain a high standard of cleanliness and hygiene in all kitchen areas.
- Clean kitchen equipment, surfaces, and utensils following the daily cleaning schedule.
- Ensure the safe disposal of waste and adherence to waste management protocols.
- Ensure food supplies are appropriately labelled, stored, and used within the correct time frames.
- Notify the Chef's of any shortages or issues with supplies.
- Work collaboratively with the kitchen team to ensure smooth daily operations.
- Support the team with any additional tasks required during busy periods.
- Assist with organising and maintaining kitchen storage areas.
- Ensure kitchen equipment is properly cleaned, maintained, and in working order.
- Report any faulty or damaged kitchen equipment to the Head Chef or management.
- Perform any other duties as required by the Head Chef or kitchen management team.
ABOUT YOU
- Passionate about food and the culinary industry with a keen interest in learning and developing kitchen skills.
- Knowledge and understanding of health and safety regulations within a hospitality and/or café environment.
- Exposure and/or knowledge of food handling principals and hygiene procedures and/or standards.
- Ability to work successfully and productively within a team environment and independently.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and customer service skills.
- High level of organisational, time management and problem solving capabilities.
- Flexible, reliable, and willing to take on a variety of tasks as required.
- High level of presentation and strong work ethic.
- Must be available weekend and be flexible to work 4-5 days across the week.
- Able to work 20-24 hours per week.
