The role:

Great opportunity to join our Above Water Systems Project Management team which provides project management and superintendent resourcing for projects managed within the AWS business. In this exciting role you will manage a package of work to support an overall project; ensuring safety, cost, schedule and quality adherence. Situated in the PM & PMO team at the Garden Island Defence Precinct (GIDP), NSW, you will be responsible for providing project control of Naval and Commercial Projects in conjunction with Managers / Project Managers and Supervisors. This position reports functionally to the Senior Project Manager and on a day to day basis to the Project Manager of the project to which the Maintenance Coordinator is assigned to at a particular time and period.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Ensuring that the highest possible standard of accident prevention measures is maintained at all times and environmental policy is followed

  • Ensuring that workplace safety performance is regularly reviewed and corrective measures instituted when required

  • Operational control of projects including client relationships, supervisors, subcontractors, material and plant, job estimates and costing resolutions, safety are in order to achieve on site contract performance

  • Management and co-ordination of Trade Supervisors and Sub-Contractors

  • Reporting progress regularly to Managers/Project Managers

  • Liaising between Managers and Supervisors to ensure labour equipment and resources are available to meet the plan

  • Understanding entire scope of the project, the critical path activities and any potential problem areas

  • Review and analyse progress reports and ensure they are provided to the Scheduler on a weekly basis

  • Review and analyse and act on variances in Labour hours and material costs to ensure financial objectives achieved

  • Inspection of the physical work to ensure compliance

  • Attending scheduled meetings with Thales and Sub-Contractors Supervisors and Customer Representatives, to monitor progress and address issues that could affect cost schedule and quality

How about you?

  • Formal qualification in the area of Engineering, Project Management, suitable trade or engineering training and experience or extensive industry experience in related field

  • Demonstrated safety leadership at a complex industrial site

  • Previous Superintendent experience will be advantageous

  • Experience in costing and preparation of technical proposals

  • Sound knowledge of financial and purchasing processes

  • Experience in Ship Building / Ship Repair or similar heavy engineering industry and/or civil engineering field will be favourable
