About Blackwater Mine:

Situated 73 kilometres south-east of Emerald, Blackwater is the second-largest open-cut metallurgical coal mine in the Bowen Basin. This long-life operation began in 1967 and has grown to become one of the longest coal mines in the Southern Hemisphere, with a strike length of 80 kilometres. Blackwater extracts high quality metallurgical and thermal coal for the export market using truck and shovel, as well as loader and dragline.

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Mine Surveyor to join the Whitehaven Coal family. Reporting to the Survey Superintendent, the Mine Surveyor will assist the Technical Service team in the planning process and ensure survey data is recorded and stored as per site process requirements.

What You’ll Do

  • Comply with the statutory and safety requirements for survey activities on site
  • Conduct daily survey tasks and weekly mine compliance reporting
  • Complete on-site RPAS drone surveys/scans/photos/incident reporting
  • Conduct EOM pickups/volume calculations/EOM reconciliation
  • Environmental monitoring and compliance surveys
  • Miscellaneous monitoring of civil structures

What You’ll Bring

  • Experience in a mine Surveying Environment
  • Tertiary qualifications in Geospatial Science/Spatial Sciences/Geographical Information Systems
  • A comprehensive understanding of Survey processes in regards to mining principles, design concepts and operational processes.
  • Proficient in survey software: Vulcan & Point Studio, RPAS reduction software, ArcGIS (Pro), and Trimble Business Centre
  • Proficient in photogrammetry software and techniques
