Senior Program Manager, Insights Applications Platform

The Insights Applications Platform team develops and runs services to deliverlow latencyinsights and inferences over massive volumes ofobservational data, combined with transactionaland external data.Weare the engine forproducts such as Dynamics 365 Customer Insights andDynamics 365Marketing Customer Journey Orchestrationas well as providing the telemetry platform for many Microsoft products such as Microsoft Office and Teams.

We are looking for anexperiencedtechnical program managerfor the next step in our journey as we expand our platform offerings toservea growing portfolio of Microsoftproducts anddeliver deep insights over anever-growingvolume and variety of streaming data.

Responsibilities

A technical program manager in our team is both outwardfacing toour platform consumers and their customers as well as internal facing to our engineering organization.Once you are fully ramped up, responsibilitieswillinclude:

  • Cross team / organization planning, prioritizationfor platform capabilities and features.Yourdepth understanding of our existing platform,industry,andcloud trendsas well as our partners’ businessesmakes you a critical part of developing a clear,prioritized,and realistic platform roadmap.You identify similar asks across partnersandmanageconflicting priorities and timelinesto resolution.
  • Identifyinggaps and opportunities for the platform. We expect you to takeinitiative. Outside of formal planning asks from other teams, youare always thinking about the next impactful investment or direction we should consider. You think about trends, other products, the widerindustry,and gaps / issues with our existing platform. You can sell an idea tosenior engineering leadership and scope research spikes,hackathons,andproof ofconcepts to validate or disprove your theories. Engineers look to you for leadership and are convinced with the evidence you bring.
  • Evangelism / education of platform capabilities to existing and future partners. Youhavedepth knowledgeonour platform, understanding our full technology stack and services architecture. You have mastered precise, concise communication and can provide elevator pitches, summary presentations as well as deep dive technical sessions on any area of our platform. You can sell our platform to partner teams and help scope MVP projects for partners to prove out their platform needs. You don’t need engineers in the room to back you up.
  • Writingspecs and scoping documents. You write great specs for engineers. You can precisely and concisely explain functional requirements and bring engineers along with you,handling conflicting views andopinions to close out clear design direction. You supplement thiswithdepth knowledge ofnonfunctionalrequirements and understand these play a critical part in designing the right solution.You are also a key reviewer of engineering design documents and a trusted critical voice.
  • Quantify / Estimate engineering work.Ourengineering managersfully cost out work based on the requirements you bring. However,your knowledge of the platform and how to deliver software engineering projects means you can estimate work early. Knowing that a feature ask isa6-month versusa 6-weekengineeringaskisacritical skill to have and you should know the magnitude of what you are asking engineeringforwhen you bring requirements.
  • Partner relationship ownership. You will be the primary point of contact forone or more internal platform partners either building on our platform or considering adoption. You work as the advocate of the partner team balancing your desire tobuildgreatplatformfor themwith the engineering realities of resources,schedules,and cost.You fully educate our team on the partner business,customers,and opportunities.

With every program manager we expect the basicsto be covered as table stakes. You are on top of youremail andcalendar; you can project manage and track / communicate progress clearly; you can run effective meetings, summarizing,capturing,and tracking action items.

Qualifications

RequiredQualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Scienceor aclosely related field OR at least 5 years’ experience in a depth technology role
  • 3+years’ experienceworking ina technical role as part ofa software engineeringteame.g.program manager, engineering manager,architect,or software engineer
  • Experience deliveringcloud-basedproductionserviceson a major cloud platforme.g.Microsoft Azure, Amazon AWS, Google Could Platform

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience building platform components that multiple products are built upon
  • Experience developing and using REST based web servicesincludingknowledge ofauthenticationand authorization
  • Understanding of source / version control systems and hands on experiencee.g.Git
  • Experience operationalizing and managing mission critical workloadsrunning on a micro services architecturein a dev ops production environment
  • Knowledge oflow-latency data pipelines andevent-driven architectures
  • Able tocode and developinternalsamples againsttheplatform so you can be the first customer of new featuresand educate engineers in partner teams
  • Working knowledge of Azure Synapseand / or MicrosoftDataverse
