We currently have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Director to lead a team of scientists across multiple AZ sites spearheading solid tumor target discovery, validation, and biology.

What you'll do

We are seeking a Director in Oncology Targeted Discovery (OTD) to develop a comprehensive strategy to discover and validate new targets for ADCs and RICs, as well as understand the role of targets in cancer biology. Working in partnership with the OTD team across the globe, lead the implementation of novel target biology and discovery efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team across multiple sites focused on cancer biology-based target discovery and validation for ADCs and RICs

  • Collaborate with internal teams to prioritize targets, develop target identification and validation strategies

  • Support project teams with early validation work and exploration of target biology

  • Interface with Tumor Councils and strategy teams to provide scientific leadership and gain feedback for ADC development

  • Lead internal and external research collaborations supporting target discovery and biology

Essential for the role

  • PhD and/or MD with experience in drug development

  • A minimum of 6 years of relevant experience

  • In-depth knowledge of tumor target identification strategies utilizing OMICS and functional screens

  • Comprehensive knowledge of ADCs and oncology disease area biology (solid tumors); experience with ADCs is desirable

  • Ability to drive, manage, execute and deliver results for complex multi-functional projects

  • Highly developed problem solving and risk management skills, with attention to detail

  • Highly developed collaborative working skills

  • Ability to act as an external ambassador and to influence external organizations to enhance the image and reputation of AstraZeneca

  • Established ability to lead a mid-size team including setting goals and objectives, empowering and developing team members

Desirable for the role

  • Experience in target identification/validation for mAb therapeutics or ADCs in oncology.
