Working at Atlassian

Atlassians can choose where they work – whether in an office, from home, or a combination of the two. That way, Atlassians have more control over supporting their family, personal goals, and other priorities. We can hire people in any country where we have a legal entity. Interviews and onboarding are conducted virtually, a part of being a distributed-first company.

This is a remote position. To help our teams work together effectively, this role requires you to be located in the Pacific or Mountain timezones.

Your future team

Our Enterprise Trust department (600+ engineers) has a mission to earn trust from large enterprises using Atalssian products. We invest in scalable foundational services that make it easy and affordable for Atlassian to satisfy enterprise customer's compliance requirements in support of the Enterprise Trust vision. Regulated Industries sits within this department and is comprised of people with backgrounds in engineering and compliance, working together to drive company-wide change.

With the 2019 Federal Cloud Computing Strategy accelerating the adoption of the cloud in US Federal agencies and Atlassian being a cloud-first company, we want all of our cloud products to meet the requirements of the public sector and all regulated industry customers. As we continue to embark on this journey, we are seeking passionate, innovative, and experienced Architects/Senior Principal Engineers to join the growing Regulated Industries team and help us realize this vision.

Your role will involve the design, implementation, and operations of the services to strengthen the enterprise readiness of our cloud. Be part of a dynamic, cross-functional team spanning all core products and services that deliver incredible, creative improvements to our products and platform. We make cross-functional engineering decisions to propel Atlassian into new and complex regulated industries.

As a Senior Principal Engineer/Architect you will have a charter to work and support 300+ engineers and architects contributing to FedRAMP and subsequent Regulated Industries initiatives. You will report into the Senior Engineering Manager of the Regulated Industries team.

Your background

  • Understanding of regulated industries and compliance requirements of FedRAMP Moderate, FedRAMP High, IL2/IL4/IL5, or significant experience with other non-US compliance frameworks (C5, IRAP, HIPAA, Protected B, etc.)

  • Understanding of building scalable isolation architectures, including isolated cloud partitions, cell-based architectures, etc.

  • 10+ years of experience building software, with 4+ years in an architect role working across teams and building, designing, scaling large-scale distributed systems.

  • Experience with SaaS, PaaS, IaaS with hands-on experience of one or more public cloud offerings (AWS)

  • Fluency in any modern object-oriented programming language (e.g., Java, Kotlin, Python, Javascript, go etc.), version control (git), CI/CD, and in architecture patterns for distributed systems

  • You see the interactions between technical decisions, people and process on a large time horizon. Past management experience would help you with this but isn't essential. You can apply platform thinking to focus on efficient usability by our internal customers, and how we can support many more consumers, and how we work with people at different levels of knowledge and skill.

Compensation

At Atlassian, we strive to design equitable and explainable compensation programs. To support this goal, the baseline of our range is higher than that of the typical market range, but in turn we expect to hire most candidates near this baseline. Base pay within the range is ultimately determined by a candidate's skills, expertise, or experience.

In the United States, we have three geographic pay zones. For this role, our current base pay ranges for new hires in each zone are:

Zone A: $239,000 - $318,600

Zone B: $215,100 - $286,800

Zone C: $198,400 - $264,500

This role may also be eligible for benefits, bonuses, commissions, and equity.

Please visit go.atlassian.com/payzones for more information on which locations are included in each of our geographic pay zones. However, please confirm the zone for your specific location with your recruiter.
