The Lodging Booking team is responsible for making Hotel and Vacation Rental reservations originating from all points of sales in EG. The platform is developed on microservices architecture and runs in the cloud leveraging Amazon Web services. This role will be contributing to our key initiative to make the booking platform easily extensible for other Lines of business. A highly scalable, and resilient system that is front and centre to All of Expedia Groups Lodging Business's PnL. Lodging Business makes 60% of Expedia’s revenue and being part of the lodging reservations team means you have a direct contribution to the bottom line. Every booking across all Expedia points of sales and subsidiaries is orchestrated by our systems and we cater to supplier needs for fulfillment of these bookings.

Are you not only skilled on the technical front but also an excellent communicator with a strong bias for action? Are you dedicated to the DevOps attitude as you will drive the life cycle of platform features from high-level concept to design to operational delivery and beyond? Are you strong at understanding resiliency patterns, and designing and building enterprise solutions at scale? Operationalizing applications and cloud infrastructure with measurable critical metrics? We are looking for someone who will deliver automated solutions to create a highly available ecosystem to power the Lodging Reservations Platform.

What you'll do:

  • You will investigate the platform architecture and work with the team to understand current engineering gaps and opportunities to evolve our technology stack

  • You will adopt cloud and serverless technologies and good design practices while finding opportunities to simplify and scale

  • Continuously improve productivity and sustainability with great coding, QA, and release processes, coaching less experienced team members

  • You will partner with the product engineering teams to evaluate and design resilient, scalable, and highly available solutions

  • You will develop cloud-native solutions to continuously harden our platform and cloud infrastructures at scale

  • Solve complex business problems by utilizing disciplined development methodology, producing scalable, flexible, efficient, and supportable solutions using appropriate technologies

  • Be a part of our development team and actively participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle, including requirements gathering, functional and technical design, development, testing and roll-out, and support

Who you are:

  • 8+ years of backend software engineering experience

  • Proven track record in architecting and developing distributed systems design

  • Hands-on technical experience leading project teams and setting technical direction

  • An equally strong ability to learn new technologies and share it with others

  • Skilled coder (familiarity with Java stack a plus) to deliver highly resilient and scalable solutions with a drive toward quality

  • Experience with development in AWS or similar cloud platforms. Preferred: AWS Lambda, ECS, EC2, S3, EMR, DynamoDB, Aurora, Redshift, or similar

  • Experience with software delivery platforms and application monitoring tools (Kubernetes, Spinnaker, Datadog, AppDynamics, or similar)

  • Familiarity with volume transactional systems, microservice design, or data processing pipelines (Docker, Kafka, Kinesis, Spark, or similar)

  • Experience with continuous delivery, automated deployments, and related engineering practices

  • Agile practitioner, able to deliver products iteratively

  • Embrace change, always be open to replacing what you built yesterday with something better today

The total cash range for this position in Austin is $173,000.00 to $242,500.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $277,000.00, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.

Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay ranges may be modified in the future.
