Division Overview

Hubbell Power Systems (HPS) engages in the design and manufacture of a wide variety of products used by utilities. Today, HPS is deeply engaged in product solutions for OSP Communication utility purposes, and has been actively growing that segment of the business. HPS roots have historically been in high voltage transmission, distribution, substation, underground products used by electric utilities. HPS products are also used in the civil construction, transportation, gas and water industries.

We, Aclara, offer a comprehensive suite of solutions comprised of meters and edge devices, advanced metering infrastructure (AMI), headend and consumer engagement software, installation services and provision of labor with a single point of accountability to utilities.

Position Overview

This position encompasses engineering and procurement related activity to ensure that quality components manufactured by qualified vendors are designed-in, procured, and assembled into all Aclara manufactured products

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate all phases of electronics, and electromechanical components procurement.
  • Support Engineering during the design of new products by identifying components, aiding in the selection of components and developing component specifications, including alternate parts.
  • Manage component procurement in support of Engineering development process
  • Support Sustaining Engineering with product development by defining component qualification tests, performing margin and tolerance analysis of components, performing statistical analysis of component life and associated testing, assessing of infant mortality, etc.
  • Support New Product Introduction by developing cost model, lead time, road map, alternate part suggestions, and follow-up with vendors.
  • Locate and qualify new potential component suppliers, especially for Aclara custom parts.
  • Develop Cost Reduction for single source parts, including developing alternate parts.
  • Ability to maintain and improve the quality, cost, and delivery of Aclara key components (New & Existing).
  • Require knowledge of Document Control process: CR (Change Request), CN (Change Notice), ECN (Engineering Change Notice)
  • Require significant interface with contract manufacturers, component manufacturers, including travel and off-site work.

Education, Skills & Experience

  • BSEE or related field of study.
  • Minimum of 4years of experience in component procurement, working in an engineering & manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to communicate detailed technical information to an audience with various levels of technical understanding.
  • Ability to provide customers with solutions to their issues in a professional well-articulated manner.
  • Excellent knowledge of PC based word processing and spreadsheet software package.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to think creatively.
  • Must be detail-oriented and ability to multitask.

Physical Demands:

  • Must be willing and able to travel ~20% of the time for off-site training and integration process support.
