Position Overview

The Sr. Design Engineer will be responsible for the design and development of new products from concept through production launch. Responsible for product redesign for improved function, cost reductions and sustainability initiatives. Assist in tooling and manufacturing process choices while producing full engineering documentation. Provide senior level management of multiple projects working in cross functional teams. Maintain up to date knowledge of applicable codes and standards and adhere to and obtain all required agency certifications. Desired experience includes product development of accessories, hardware & systems for the wireless network industry. Additionally, desired is experience in the design of remote-powered solar solutions to power off-grid wireless electronics. This includes system design for enclosure, router/modem, accessories, antenna type, power requirements, batteries, PV panels.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Independently or as project leader, develop/design new products from concept to production using 3D CAD software (Solid Works or Autodesk Inventor).
  • Manage multiple engineering projects at a high level, working within cross-functional teams. Report project status as needed to management and take all necessary steps to maintain project schedules
  • Design of electro-mechanical components & mechanisms comprised of plastic injection, thermoformed, stamped metal, sheet-metal and cast components.
  • Design products to be in conformance with all necessary agency standards (UL, CSA, ETL, IEC, TIA, IEEE, NEMA etc).
  • Produce all required engineering documentation including detailed engineering drawings, bills of materials, and performance specifications.
  • Redesign products for improved function, cost reductions and sustainability initiatives.
  • Assist in tooling and manufacturing process choices. Disposition first article inspection reports.
  • Keep up to date on industry standards, regulatory agency and code requirements and secure necessary approvals for new and revised products (UL, CSA, FCC, ETL, IEC, TIA, IEEE, NEMA etc).
  • Ability to lead projects and direct and mentor Engineers and Designers.
  • Additional responsibilities and tasks to be assigned as needed based on organizational and company needs.

Skills and Experience

  • 10 years minimum in Design of Electro-Mechanical products.
  • Strong project management skills in handling multiple simultaneous projects.
  • Skilled in 3D CAD software preferably Solid Works or Autodesk Inventor.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing techniques, thermoforming, high-volume plastic molding, metal stamping & metal forming.
  • A self starter capable of independently handling all required engineering tasks.
  • Knowledge of third-party testing and certification a plus (UL, CSA, FCC, etc).
  • Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering required.
